Tomorrow Denim - AW22

By Josefin Forsberg

A denim brand that does much more than jeans, we dive deeper into Zalando Sustainability Award nominee Tomorrow Denim's autumn/winter 2022 collection

“Humanity is now standing at a crossroads,” Greta Thunberg’s voice boomed as Tomorrow Denim’s show was about to start. The sampled speech set the tone of the Zalando Sustainability Award nominee’s show, echoed by clips of burning forests and protesters. The lights came up in Nikolaj Kunsthall, with a rising sun travelling across the screens in the background.

Tomorrow Denim’s dedication to sustainability is undeniable. As the world’s first denim brand certified by both The Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel, it is clear that they don’t compromise on quality or the material’s impact on the environment.

There was a sense of hope when the models stepped out onto the runway. An amalgamation of soft tailoring and denim in surprising silhouettes with muted accessories followed. Rigid denim lent the looks structure, exemplified by the bell-shaped sleeves of a dark denim jacket and the A-line shape of a denim cape. The brand explores the quintessentially Nordic merger of femininity and masculinity, with the models sporting updated takes on the three piece suit – with contrasting waistcoat, jacket and wide slung denim trousers. But while the sets were masculine in their expression, the skirts were mini and the dresses figure hugging.

A patchwork of Scandinavian signature styles, the last look in the collection had us longing for a 1970s style robe coat in 50 shades of denim.
