Stylist Louis Prier Tisdall takes Uniqlo’s cashmere jumper – a classic, seasonal staple – and elevates the possibilities for how to wear it
Vogue’s new campaign, a comforting, colourful ode to cashmere, sees stylist Louis Prier Tisdall elevate the classic staple, which is reinvented this season by Uniqlo in more than 30 different colours.
Tisdall is a longtime cashmere lover. “You always know you’re going to feel great when you’re wearing a cashmere item because it feels very luxurious against [your skin] – there’s a tactility to it and, even in a muted colour, you still stand out.” For this campaign, he channelled his love of play, bringing a distinct Vogue lens to styling the Uniqlo collection. “I wanted to style the Uniqlo cashmere and reinvent the knitwear in this campaign by creating a sense of optimism and fun,” he says. “There are so many colours so it’s really easy to play with combinations in different tones and make any outfit feel vibrant, reflecting how easy it is to wear these items and mix and match.”

Long before becoming the creative director of the brand, Clare Waight Keller, like many others, had a personal relationship with Uniqlo. After coming across the famous “walls of cashmere” – a kaleidoscopic array of colourful sweaters, neatly folded and stacked on shelves in stores during the autumn/winter season – the British designer became a convert. “I’m a complete cashmere addict,” she confesses. “After I started wearing Uniqlo cashmere, I realised how perfect the finishing is. It maintains such a beautiful, clean look. Even after keeping it for many years, it still looks like the day I bought it.”

Lauded for her elegant, timeless and highly wearable designs with a feminine edge, Waight Keller’s first collaboration with Uniqlo came in 2023, when she launched a hit new line called Uniqlo C (the “C” stands for a “new chapter”), a sophisticated offering of everyday LifeWear items: think pleated chiffon skirts, light down jackets and lambswool half-zip sweaters, all exuding Waight Keller’s signature casual chic. Then, in September 2024, the designer officially took the helm of Uniqlo as creative director, much to the delight of the fashion industry at large.
In these elevated new images, Vogue celebrates the Japanese brand’s latest collection of quality cashmere. The line-up offers a vast range of styles, including crew neck, turtleneck, V-neck and half-zip. A sense of vibrant colour is at the core of the new line, which offers both men’s and women’s pieces in more than 30 different options. From natural, soft, classic shades to beautiful powder brights and deep, rich tones, there is a shade for everyone and every style. Those who favour a bolder, more colourful wardrobe might opt for the baby blue, salmon pink, or plum-purple offerings, while others with a more minimalist sense of style might be inclined to go for greys, creams and browns. “It’s such a beautiful palette to pick so many different shades from,” says Waight Keller, who personally tends towards dark, earthy colours.

A winter wardrobe hinges on durable staple pieces worn repeatedly throughout the colder months and UNIQLO’s cashmere sweater is a versatile and highly desirable addition to your roster – especially when worn the Vogue way. Cashmere can often be seen as a luxury, high-maintenance item, particularly in terms of care – but Uniqlo’s offering is a high-quality, affordable option, made for all and easily handwashable at home. If concerned about maintenance, head to Uniqlos website, where you’ll find easy-to-follow advice on how to best take care of your jumper.

Vogue’s final tip for wearing Uniqlo cashmere? Bring your personal perspective to styling these pieces. “These items give the opportunity for anyone to play with them,” Tisdall concludes, on set. “You can choose your favourite colours and combinations and surprise yourself, accidentally throwing them together. Maybe it’s a beanie hat or a scarf, a cardigan over a crewneck or V-necks together – you can always put your own point of view or personal style across.”
