Julie Sandlau debuts The Heritage Collection: Fine jewellery inspired by family legacy

On November 6th, within the walls of the Ordrupgaard art museum just north of Copenhagen, Danish jewellery virtuoso Julie Sandlau unveiled her latest creations. Before an audience that included the city’s culture and fashion vanguard – among them Vogue Scandinavia’s editor-in-chief, Martina Bonnier – Sandlau introduced The Heritage Collection: her second, highly anticipated step into the world of fine jewellery. Rooted in a personal family narrative, the collection transforms personal memory into a radiant study in elegance, legacy, and beauty.

Rendered in exquisite 18k gold and sparkling diamonds, with luminous pearls and the soft, captivating tones of champagne and olive quarts, the new fine jewellery line is more than mere adornment; it is a profound testament to legacy. "The Heritage Collection is rooted in my own story – a symbol of family, love, and legacy," explains brand founder and creative director Julie Sandlau.

At the heart of the collection sits a significant piece from Sandlau’s archives: the first diamond ring she ever designed, meticulously crafted 20 years ago using a diamond inherited from her late father. “It’s a design I have carried with me for decades, and I am proud to now share it with the world as a collection to be cherished for generations,” she reflects.

Over the decades, this singular ring has blossomed into a fundamental motif within Sandlau's designs, a precious symbol passed down to her daughters – who front the stunning campaign for The Heritage Collection – and artfully reinterpreted through a wave of new, covetable designs. What began as an intimate symbol of love and remembrance has now been brought forth as a magnificent, full collection that embodies tradition, unbreakable family bonds, and timeless, sophisticated glamour.

While Sandlau’s daughters provide the radiant faces of the campaign, the designer makes clear in her conversation with Bonnier that they have not yet formally entered the jewellery world. “They’re still young,” she states, her youngest daughter being 14 and her eldest 18. “I think they should create their own success and happiness, and follow their passion. But if they eventually would like to come into the company, I would be more than happy with that.”

The company they would be joining is one defined by a distinctive and lasting legacy. It has been 23 years since Sandlau first entered the jewellery scene, fundamentally reshaping the landscape in Denmark. “When I started, there were only traditional jewellery stores and a few individual jewellers, and then there was bijoux: there was nothing in between,” Sandlau explains. “I began at home, at the dining room table, and found my own way.”

Sandlau was among the first in Denmark to move boldly into the more accessible fashion jewellery space. “The market opened up and consumers started to buy their own jewellery, not just for occasions but to wear every day,” she says. “Denmark has become a country of jewellery. We have somehow been leading the way, and now jewellery is for everyone.” Now, more than 20 years on, Sandlau notes that the moment is right to take the step into fine jewellery: “Our customers grew up with me and they are mature enough now to buy their own fine jewellery.”
