When was Emily in Paris renewed for season 5?
Well, there was much confusion back in May of 2024 when, during the amfAR gala at the Cannes Film Festival, Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson appeared on stage to auction off a walk-on role in Emily in Paris season five for charity. In the official auction booklet, the listing read: “From Sex and the City to Emily in Paris, Darren Star brings dreams to life, and he will bring the film dreams to life for one lucky bidder with a walk-on role during season five of Emily in Paris. As part of the walk-on role, the winning bidder will have the opportunity to spend a day on set in Paris during filming sometime after April 2025. To tide you over until then, the winning bidder and a guest are invited to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Emily in Paris season four this August.” Harlow and Jackson added that season five is scheduled to begin shooting in mid 2025, and the eventual winner of the auction shelled out a whopping €250,000.
However, it was then reported that the fifth season had not actually been greenlit, with the auction website being updated to say that the winning bidder would “have the opportunity to spend a day on set in Paris during filming, contingent upon season five pick-up”. Now that we’ve had the official confirmation, fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

So, what will be the plot of Emily in Paris season 5?
And, most crucially, will Emily Cooper remain in the Italian capital or return to the City of Light? The official log line offers some answers: “Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city,” it reads. “But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.”

From the first stills, it’s also clear that she takes a trip to Venice, though we don’t yet know whether this is for work, play or both. In the early images, Emily looks very much in love with Eugenio Franceschini’s Marcello, though we can see that Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel and Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie remain in the picture, too.

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work-life balance,” Lily Collins told Netflix in an interview. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.” Creator Darren Star concurs: “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

As for her will-they-won’t-they entanglement with the hot chef? Per Collins, “Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice” to end things with Emily. Ouch. Adds Star: “Her love life is always complicated… we have some interesting, surprising developments in terms of her love life.” Watch this space.

Who will be in the cast of Emily in Paris season 5?
Collins, Bravo and Franceschini will be joined by most of the show’s other stalwarts, including Ashley Park (Mindy), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), Thalia Besson (Genevieve), Paul Forman (Nico), Arnaud Binard (Laurent) and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), who is confirmed to be returning as a series regular. “Lucien is basically in every episode this season,” Star told Deadline. “He’s terrific, and I’m really happy to see him back this year in a more significant way.”

Not re-entering the fold, however, is Camille Razat. “After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,” the actor said in an Instagram post in April, adding that though her character Camille’s “storyline has naturally come to an end” they’d be “leaving the door open for her return, as she will always be a part of [the] Emily in Paris world.”
There’s no word yet on whether or not Rupert Everett’s Giorgio Barbieri and Anna Galiena’s Antonia Muratori will be returning (let’s keep our fingers crossed), but there will be other familiar faces. One is Oscar nominee Minnie Driver, as Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie’s who married into a royal family, alongside Bryan Greenberg as Jake, an American living in Paris, and Michèle Laroque as Yvette, another old friend of Sylvie’s.

Will there be more seasons of Emily in Paris after that?
It looks like it, yes. When asked by Deadline back in 2022 if season four would be the show’s final chapter, Star replied, “I definitely think the show has a life beyond next season. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end.” Let’s hope that time doesn’t come for a while yet.
