Street stylers are making the most of knitted maxis this season

This season, we're stitching together our cold-weather wardrobes with top-to-toe knitwear

When perusing the street-bound looks of fashion's most wanted, we sometimes find ourselves faced with an inherent unpracticality. Usually forgoing function, fashion week attendees with their short-short hemlines and extra-high heels are more fit for fantasy than inspiration for our everyday ensembles. This season, however, saw both the style set and designers embracing one of our favourite functional pieces: the knitted maxi dress.

No matter the method – whether crochet, purl, or garter stitch – this season we went mad for the maxi. Cut sensually tight in a semi-sheer merino, best sported with black shades and knee high leather boots, the knitted maxi made waves in Paris. In Milan, sprightly colour reigned supreme, while Copenhagen kept to texture in muted pantones. At Acne Studios, slit knits sweeping the runway had us pivoting our wardrobes toward grunge, while Alberta Feretti's long-line grey cable knit layers left us longing for our next jaunt to the alps.

All things considered, why wouldn't you wear the closest thing to a knit blanket when you can? Below, find our favourite looks from the fashion week attendees at the autumn/winter season:
