The Met Gala 2024 was blooming with Scandinavian moments. We break them all down below

Given that the theme of the 2024 Met Gala – ‘The Garden of Time’ – is Midsummer-coded (Flowers! Tradition! Woods!), it was fitting that Scandinavia was well-represented on the green and beige carpet. We aren’t just talking about Scandinavian stars – though there were plenty – but also Scandinavian spouses, Scandinavian transplants and Scandinavian designs. There was even a Vogue Scandinavia alum or two.

Without further ado, we breakdown the standout Scandinavian moments at the 2024 Met Gala.

Rebecca Ferguson in Thom Browne

Making her Met Gala red carpet debut, Swedish superstar Rebecca Ferguson totally went for it in custom Thom Browne. Playing on the popular “crystallised in time” interpretation of the theme (more on that later) the Dune star looked utterly regal in in a dramatic cape, which she opened to reveal a high-necked form-firing black gown glimmering with 60,000 blue and green Swarovski crystal florets. On the cape, black crows. A true forest fantasy.

Haute H&M

The Met Gala red carpet saw several major H&M moments. The first came via British supermodel Adwoa Aboah who made a pregnancy reveal in a ruffled crop top and dramatic, ankle-skimming bubble skirt (she joins the ranks of Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams, who have both announced pregnancies on the Met Gala carpet). Very mother nature.

Hari Nef wore another standout H&M look. The actress channelled old Hollywood glamour in a strapless white gown adorned with white paillettes.

Rounding out the dramatically dressed H&M crowd was Paloma Elsesser (that made-to-measure metallic bodice was everything), Quannah Chasinghorse (the colour of which honours Alaska’s state flower) and Awkwafina (yes, we do!).

Alexander Skarsgård in Calvin Klein

The eldest Skarsgård sibling and Succession alum looked dapper as ever in double-breasted Calvin Klein.

Swarovski Global Creative Director and Stockholm resident Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert absolutely stunned in, you guessed it, custom Swarovski. She was joined by a bevy of Swarovski-dripping supermodels, including Irina Shayk and Anok Yai. Talk about crystallised in time.

Jeremy Strong and Emma Wall in Loro Piana

While Succession star and Number One Boy Jeremy Strong looked sublime (and very Kendall-coded) in custom Loro Piana, we’re here to celebrate his wife, Danish documentary filmmaker Emma Wall, who wore a coordinated off-white Loro Piana look for the occasion. Understated and on-theme with a hint of Scandi minimalism – we love to see it.

Uma Thurman in Tory Burch

Quarter-Swedish superstar Uma Thurman (her mum is half-Swedish) wore a periwinkle Tory Burch gown for the occasion. The finishing touch? The floating 3D butterflies flying about her shoulders.

Laufey in Prabal Gurung

Icelandic singer and Vogue Scandinavia alum Laufey was serving up princess bride in a ruffled Prabal Gurung frock. A Scandi style star is born.

Pamela Anderson in Oscar de la Renta

Also making her Met Gala debut is Pamela Anderson, who stunned in off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta. An ardent lover of nature, the actor and activist, who has long-since embraced her Finnish roots (on her father’s side), was right at home in the enchanted forest-like decor.

Gustav Magnar Witzøe in Versace

Norwegian billionaire, salmon heir and Vogue Scandinavia alum Gustav Magnar Witzøe looked like a certified Disney prince in a nude Versace look, dramatic cape and crystal six-pack included.
