Samsøe Samsøe - AW22

By Josefin Forsberg

This coming season, Samsøe Samsøe makes a case for zebra to be the new animal print of choice

This season saw the first collection by the new head of women’s wear, Meme Marta Fagiuoli. Under the leadership of Fagiuoli, the shape and proportions of the body are put centre stage at Samsøe Samsøe. As a result, the upcoming autumn/winter 2022 collection focused on fit – from pleats that nip in the waist for curvier frames to lines that flatter elongated forms.

Even though Fagiuoli sets out to design more inclusively, the strong design DNA of Samsøe Samsøe is as prevalent as ever. Inspired by the “mood and vibe of the 1990s,” as Fagiuoli puts it, oversized silhouettes are paired with something slim underneath. Bare legs lay the base of voluminous shapes, while utilitarian trousers are contrasted with strappy tank tops. In electric green, punchy purples and bright orange, the collection focuses on tailoring and deconstructed dresses. Zebra is a prominent print on both garments and accessories, set to replace leopard as our pattern of choice.

Another notable element was the focus on texture. Crochet came in the shape of polo tops and handbags, while slinky silks were offset by chunky knits. At the same time, the inimitable scrunched up popcorn fabric was brought into the 21st century in the form of figure-hugging dresses. Standouts in the collection was a greige leather puffer and the perfect pea-green suit. And the statement shoes of the season? Knee-high Zebra boots in a horsehair finish.
