Remain is turning Scandinavian minimalism on its head for AW22

Curious about what Danish-brand Remain is serving this autumn/winter? Vogue Scandinavia has the inside scoop

There’s an old saying, “If you want something done right, do it yourself”. And this seems to be the motto that Remain CEO and creative director Denise Christensen subconsciously had on her mind when designing the Copenhagen label’s AW22 collection. “I took a lot of inspiration from my own life this season,” she tells Vogue Scandinavia. “I wanted to create the wardrobe that would blend seamlessly into my own life.” And it’s an inspiration that seems to benefit all our closets.

With an emphasis on “tailoring, knitwear and outerwear”, the pieces would fit easily into any cool girl’s wardrobe, whether in the streets of Copenhagen or Calabasas. They ooze a paparazzi-fresh aesthetic. Bright colours, oversized belts and look-at-me cuts give the clothes an attitude that sparks the optimism and confidence we all need right now.

So what’s the collection’s greatest hit? “I love the long shearling coat with the defined pleats in the back,” says Christensen. “I will never get tired of statement coats. You’ll throw it on when leaving the house, and that’s all you need.” Another star player is the denim trench styled over jeans, giving the ‘Canadian tuxedo’ the refresh we never knew it needed.
