Remain - AW23

By Josefin Forsberg

"Focus" was the key word for Remain when crafting its autumn/winter collection full of contrasting elements

Remain's nature-inspired autumn/winter 2023 collection stood in stark contrast to the industrial venue – a raw space elegantly brought to life with prominent fabric drapery. According to creative director Denise Christensen, the team were excited by an inherently natural, tactile collection clashing with the stark industrial space. "There is no distraction from the venue, allowing the audience to be immersed in the subtleties of the collection," she told Vogue Scandinavia ahead of the show.

Grounded in a neutral palette of earthy tones, the collection allows tailoring takes centre stage. With broad shoulders and statement-making sets, Remain made '80s power dressing feel incredibly modern. Bold, masculine structure and sleek feminine detailing convey cool and contemporary sophistication. Traditional three-piece-suiting is shown with sculpted, cinched waist blazers and intricate details, while body-skimming knits offer ample layering options. Red, pink, yellow and ochre adds life and energy to the grounded collection, while the tactility of heavy tweeds and plush knitwear bring gravitas to the collection. Not to mention the pin-striped silver jacket and matching trousers.

Leatherwear is at the heart of Remain's craftsmanship and is suitably prominent throughout the autumn/winter range. "Specifically, we play with classic tailoring models – fitted blazers, mid-length dresses, slim straight-cut trousers – crafted in supple, high-quality leather," says Christensen. "Subverting tradition, yet creating something long-lasting and wearable." Presenting the material's versatility, leather pieces are introduced in unexpected forms: replicating the refined, tailored silhouettes in firm, crunchy leather and casual oversized bomber jackets in supple, butter-soft varieties.
