Editor in chief Martina Bonnier on why our latest digital cover – featuring Princess Olympia of Greece and Denmark – is not to be missed

Some Vogue images stay with you. Years ago, I saw the Miller sisters photographed for the magazine, and I still remember thinking it was one of the most beautiful pictures I had ever seen. So there is something rather full circle about having Marie-Chantal's daughter, Princess Olympia of Greece and Denmark, on our cover. She is so much like her mother. When going through the images, I kept thinking she had a little of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy about her, too: that unmistakably New York kind of taste.

It made me think of Truman Capote's swans, too. Those women had privilege, of course, but what set them apart was taste, and taste is very hard to develop. So much of Vogue's own history was written in New York by women like them; they were the icons, and often the models, too. Olympia is the modern version, and a far cooler one. She is a contributing editor at Moda Operandi, a job she adores, and a Tiffany&Co. ambassador, with a style that is modern, but elegant and polished in that distinctly New York way.

We always knew about her Danish lineage, which runs through her grandmother, Queen Anne-Marie (Greece abolished its monarchy decades ago, but the family is very much still around). What surprised me was how Scandinavian her memories are. As she tells Natalie Salmon in our cover story, her grandmother still makes her Danish delicacies, and childhood in Copenhagen meant Christmas at Tivoli and summer trips to Legoland. Those are the details I love most about this cover. You meet this very New York woman, and underneath, you can see how much those Scandinavian childhood memories still shape her.

Our cover follows her through a day on the Lower East Side, the newest chapter in a very old New York story. I hope you’ll enjoy the story as much as I did.
