Jade Cropper - AW22

By Allyson Shiffman

One of the most buzziest shows of the season, Jade Cropper delivered a sophisticated yet sexy collection bound to be snatched up by her famous fans in seconds

Nabbing the talent slot at this year’s CPHFW is Swedish designer Jade Cropper, whose modern interpretation of unapologetically sexy dressing has already attracted an endless list of famous fans. Needless to say, the buzz was palpable for Cropper's first show, which took place in an industrial space, against an LED backdrop of disorienting corridors — a kaleidoscopic livestream from the venue itself.

Those being introduced to Cropper’s universe for the very first time may be surprised to learn of her primary muse. “I continuously draw inspiration from my grandmother,” says Cropper. “She was an independent woman who was never afraid to live by her own rules and stand out.” This time around, however, Cropper balanced her signature sexiness with an air of sophistication — floor grazing black gowns, round shouldered jackets — paired with moto accessories that ranged from trusty boots to knee pads and helmets.

Working exclusively with waste fabric and recycled materials, Cropper’s designs are informed by what’s available. “The fabric that I receive is often in different shapes and sizes,” she says. “So for this collection, I let the materials at hand guide me in my design process.” Stretchy materials like recycled mesh are juxtaposed against sturdier fabrics – denim and leather – adding unexpected structure and weight. Tearaway dresses, an early aughts nod, felt right at home in Cropper’s repertoire.

As always, each item is made by hand, in Cropper’s Stockholm studio, though you can bet you’ll soon see them in far off lands, on the world’s most famous bodies.
