Carin Wester is making big moves. Splitting her eponymous label into two, the Swedish designer is revisiting the brand’s heritage while also refining it for a new, younger audience

For decades, Carin Wester has been an integral part of the Swedish fashion sphere. Launched in 2004 and originally operating independently, Wester’s successful eponymous label was picked up by Swedish department store Åhléns in 2016. The move meant Wester herself stepped back, taking on a more over-arching role. But in the wake of the pandemic, the designer felt a creative itch she could not scratch.

“I really wanted to get back to designing,” she tells me over afternoon tea. “During the past year, I started to feel a need to reinvigorate and change Carin Wester.”
