The prettiest bridal beauty trend? A modern take on something blue

Forget the shellacked bridal face of weddings past. In 2026, wedding makeup is fresher, softer and far more personal, with lit-from-within skin, romantic blush and even a whisper of blue. Inspired by Vogue Scandinavia’s latest bridal shoot with bride-to-be Desiré Inglander, Senior Beauty Editor Josefin Forsberg reflects on the L’Oréal Paris products that feel most right for the modern bride

There was a time when bridal makeup came with its own rather tyrannical formula. Matte base. Safe eye. Bulletproof lip. A general air of being lightly shellacked for the special occasion. In 2026, that template is finally starting to look as dated as a cupcake tower and a pouffe sleeve.

That shift felt especially clear while working on Vogue Scandinavia’s latest bridal shoot with bride-to-be Desiré Inglander. In the story, she appears as a very modern vision of a bride, less interested in old-school nuptial rules than in a look that is expressive and unmistakably her own. There is soft radiance in the skin, mega-long lashes, a pinched cheek and, notably, a wash of blue around the eyes. It is romantic, yes, but not overly precious. More importantly, it reflects a wider change in bridal beauty now, where individuality matters more than ever and self-expression has finally made its way into the wedding day makeup brief.

I got married in 2024, and the best advice I received was also the simplest: make sure you still look like yourself. It was good advice. Trusted advice, really. When you look back at your wedding pictures years from now, you want to recognise your own face staring back at you. That does not mean bridal makeup needs to be boring. It just means every product has to earn its place.

One Vogue Scandinavia colleague who did her own wedding makeup earlier this year put it best: “There’s no more important day to use those products you know you can trust.” Exactly. Whether you are doing your own makeup or placing your face in someone else’s hands, the products that make sense for a wedding day are the ones that have already proved themselves. Time and time again.

That, to me, is the real beauty of bridal makeup in 2026. It should still make you feel like the most confident version of yourself, just with a little extra polish. After all, you’re worth it every day, but especially on your wedding day. So, without further ado, here are five bridal trends (and the L’Oréal Paris staples to match) that fit the modern bridal mood perfectly.

1

L'Oréal Paris

Infaillible 3-Second Setting Mist

The setting mist that can handle the hugs

A wedding day is, among many other things, an endurance test for makeup. There are hugs. There are cheek kisses. There are tears if all goes well. There is heat, movement, long hours and the general chaos of being photographed from every possible angle. This is where L’Oréal Paris Infaillible 3-Second Setting Mist comes into its own.

It is one of those tried-and-trusted products in my kit when I need makeup to stay exactly where I put it. I have tested more setting sprays than I care to count over the years, including glow-giving formulas, glittery ones and those that promise the earth before melting away by lunchtime. Few have held up like this one. For a wedding day, that matters. The transfer-proof finish makes particular sense when affection is coming at you from all directions and your base needs to survive every congratulatory embrace still intact.

Hyaluron Lip Stain Tint

The lip tint that lasts through speeches and Champagne

Bridal lips are often where practicality and fantasy part ways. A classic lipstick can look beautiful at the start of the day, but weddings are not static affairs. There is drinking, eating, talking, kissing and, if the evening is going as it should, very little time to stand in front of a mirror performing lip maintenance.

That is exactly why L’Oréal Paris Hyaluron Lip Stain Tint feels so right for the occasion. This is one of those formulas I reach for when I know I need my lip colour to last. It glides on like a lip oil, then dries down to a soft, blurred, just-kissed finish that survives speeches and Champagne far better than many traditional lipsticks ever could. It has the ease of a tint with a fresher, more modern finish, which feels far more in step with where bridal beauty is heading now.

The mascara that does the heavy lifting

If bridal beauty in 2026 is less about obvious makeup and more about enhancing what is already there, mascara becomes one of the hardest-working products in the entire routine. A great formula can open up the eyes, bring definition to the face and make everything look a little more lifted without tipping into anything too done.

L’Oréal Paris Extensionist Mascara has proven to be one of the brand’s new standouts for me. I have raved about it before, and for good reason. I am still, frankly, on an eternal search for “the one” when it comes to mascara, but this lash-lengthening wonder product has come dangerously close. The effect is almost absurd in the best possible way, stretching lashes so high they practically reach for the brows. In our bridal shoot with Desiré Inglander, it helped create those striking, elongated lashes that made the whole look feel polished but still fresh. For brides who want definition without anything too stiff or obvious, it makes a compelling case for itself.

Lumi Le Liquid Blush in '625 Glowy Gold Pink'

The just-pinched flush for a blushing bride

There are few things sadder than a bridal look that has accidentally flattened the life out of a face. Blush is often the fix. Not a heavy-handed stripe of colour, but that healthy, softly radiant flush that makes the whole complexion look more awake, more romantic and more alive in photographs.

That is exactly what L’Oréal Paris Lumi Blush does so well. It is one of those lit-from-within blushes that gives cheeks a fresh wash of colour with just enough glow to catch the light beautifully. On a wedding day that kind of finish is worth its weight in gold. It gives the face that pinched-cheek prettiness modern brides are gravitating towards, and it sits perfectly within this broader move away from overly sculpted bridal makeup and towards something softer, fresher and more emotionally resonant.

And yes, something blue

Perhaps the prettiest twist in bridal beauty right now is the return of “something blue”. No, we’re not talking about the ribbon around your bouquet or the colour of your shoe, but a wash of colour across the eye. In Inglander’s Vogue Scandinavia bridal shoot it took the form of a baby blue eye shadow, but for a more traditional take I’d suggest a smudged deep sea blue eyeliner – perhaps the Infallible Grip 36H Automatic Eyeliner in ‘Blue Jersey?’

That, ultimately, is what makes bridal beauty interesting in 2026. The modern bride is not trying to disappear into a generic idea of bridal perfection. Instead, she wants to look like a better-rested, perhaps more romantic, version of herself. In short, the best wedding makeup does not mask. It is refined. It holds up. It lets you move through one of the biggest, most chaotic days of your life feeling confident in your own skin.

And when it comes to that kind of confidence, there really is no better place to start than with the products you already know you can trust.
