Wardrobe panic this party season? BOSS has you sorted, from office drinks to Christmas lunch

BOSS’ holiday campaign arrives with mix-and-match pieces that move easily from day to night. Below, Josefin Forsberg, an autumn dresser at heart, on why November makes getting dressed so difficult, and how to navigate the party season, from office cocktails to Christmas lunch with the family

I’m an autumn. As the trending TikTok sound suggests, September and October are a highlight in my wardrobe. In Stockholm, you can get away with a leather coat or a cashmere blazer and, on the odd occasion, even a bare leg. There’s little need to bundle up in relentless layers that come on and off and on again throughout the day. A cashmere sweater sits just right under a lighter trench coat with a capri trouser and a kitten heel. Sunglasses are still a vital accessory, and a light-wash, slouchy pair of jeans can be worn with a heavier V-neck sweater and a pair of Havaianas.

Then, November hits and bam – your wardrobe ease dissipates in a flash. All of a sudden, your lighter coats do little to protect against the cold. Leggings are layered under trousers, and you end up wearing the same dreary boots and padded coat for the coming four months. There’s little wiggle room to express yourself with what you wear. Even less to feel remotely stylish while doing so. Honestly, most of the time I feel like the Michelin Man trudging through the snow.

Next, Christmas parties start cropping up: office cocktails and lunch with the family. How does one dress for a special occasion when getting dressed at all is a gargantuan task? Luckily, BOSS' new campaign has arrived just in time and with a helping hand, guiding us from day to night with mix-and-match pieces that will definitely be in high rotation.

Office cocktails present a particularly difficult sartorial maze to navigate. You don’t want to look too dressy, nor too dressed down. Here, a knitted sweater dress and Boss’s square-toed, knee-high leather boots present the perfect blank canvas. Accessories do the heavy lifting in making it more personal – be it through a statement necklace, a fun stocking, or a red lip.

But if your own Christmas party presents a challenge, it is even worse when you show up as someone’s plus-one. You want to dress to impress without stealing the spotlight. Boss’s separates strike the right balance: wear the sparkly top and pencil skirt together for a snazzier evening, or split them up, styled with black tailored trousers or a soft sweater, for a slightly less dressy do. Anyone who gets stressed about party dressing should invest in them, as they can be worn multiple times throughout the season without feeling as if you’re doubling down on the same look.

It’s a wardrobe trick that ticks over into family lunch, although I personally prefer something even more comfortable and casual. The wrap-over, high V-neck sweater in light blue is the perfect kind of daytime dressy, especially with wide, dark denim trousers and a heeled boot. We all love a V-neck right now, but this higher neckline will keep you warm in the coldest climates. Add a statement stud earring and you’re sorted.

Accessories are the final fix, from leather gloves with faux-fur cuffs to a structured handbag. So, pull on the gloves and step out into the snow: for one evening, at least, the Michelin Man can stay at home.
