Birrot - SS26

By Eleanor Kittle

With tiny tops and billowing bottoms, Birrot is playing with proportions of SS26. Embedded with a certain strain of empathy, the Korean-Danish brand looks to reject Western attitudes to clothing, swapping them for a more peaceful and forgiving attitude that brings garments to life

To Korean-Danish brand Birrot, clothing is an inherently emotional art form – one that transcends function to explore the quiet interplay between body, fabric, and feeling. For its spring/summer 2026 collection, titled 'Emotional Layers', the label continues to evolve its visual and material vocabulary, marked by a signature restraint and intentionality that speaks louder than excess ever could.

There was a profound empathy embedded within the structure of Birrot's garments. Rejecting the dominant Western notion that the body must conform to the garment, Birrot embraces a more Korean sensibility – one in which clothing yields to the shape and presence of the wearer. Their pieces, designed to lie flat and two-dimensional when unworn, only reveal their full character once animated on the human form.

In 'Emotional Layers', silhouettes were consciously under- or oversized, emphasising the dynamic relationship between the body and the garment, between stillness and movement, absence and presence. Structured, belly-baring bandeau tops were juxtaposed with fluid harem pants or tailored pencil skirts, creating tension and harmony in proportion. Boxy shift dresses, deigned to expel outwards from the body, were layered over slim-fitting trousers or sheer knee-high socks, subtly revealing the wearer's silhouette beneath. These garments do not impose themselves on the wearer; instead, they adapt, respond, and transform – coming to life only in motion.

This ethos of subtlety and lack of imposition extended to the collection's colour story, which remained quietly evocative. Grounded in earthen tones – charcoal greys, burgundies, and rich warm browns – the palette was softly punctuated by pastel hues: sky blue, sage green, and candyfloss pink. These gentle notes added a perky undercurrent, hinting at geity without ever overshadowing the true focal point of the collection: Birrot's impeccable tailoring and refined craftsmanship.

"There is a playfulness to BIRROT as a brand," says joint creative director Min Kim to this effect. "We always want to give people a way to play with their garments, whether that's with size or with a button to change the shape of the waist or sleeve, or snaps at the hem of trousers to create a totally new silhouette."
