A surge of anticipation was felt throughout Stockholm last week, as Volvo Cars unveiled its most intelligent, ambitious and technologically advanced model to date: the fully electric Volvo EX60.
Over three days, Sweden’s capital became a global meeting point for automotive and innovation leaders and enthusiasts. “It feels like the United Nations in here,” one guest remarked, surveying the international delegation gathered for an immersive programme of workshops and curated experiences, culminating in a celebratory reveal at Artipelag. The moment marked the debut of a car designed not only to lead Volvo into its next century, but to redefine what a fully electric vehicle can be.

A new benchmark for electric performance
Powered by cutting-edge technology, the Volvo EX60 delivers Volvo Cars’ longest range and fastest charging to date. In an all-wheel-drive configuration, the EX60 offers a range of up to 810 kilometres on a single charge. When connected to a 400kW fast charger, it can add up to 340 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes, while charging from 10% to 80% takes a mere 19 minutes.
For Kenza Zouiten, those figures matter deeply. A mother of three boys who is expecting a daughter later this year, Zouiten frequently drives her family to their countryside retreat around 80 kilometres from Stockholm – a journey that already relies on an electric charging station at the destination. Like many early adopters of electric vehicles, she says complete reliability is essential. “You need to feel confident that the car will get you there – and back – without worry,” she notes, adding that the EX60’s range and charging capabilities remove the anxiety of being stranded mid-journey.

Intelligent technology that evolves with you
At the core of the EX60 is HuginCore, Volvo Cars’ new system of integrated hardware and software that allows the car to think, process and act in real time. Designed to improve continuously through over-the-air updates, it ensures the car evolves alongside its driver. The EX60 is also the first Volvo to launch with Google’s new AI assistant, Gemini, enabling natural, hands-free conversations with the car – the latest result of Volvo Cars and Google’s nearly decade-long collaboration.
That sense of intelligent support is especially welcomed by Victoria Törnegren, a digital entrepreneur and mother of two who recently obtained her driver’s license after moving outside Stockholm’s city centre. “As a new driver, I’m extra careful,” she says. Features such as Road Sign Information, which displays current speed limits directly in the driver’s view, help her stay confident on the road. “Having that information at a glance makes such a difference – especially when you’re still finding your rhythm.”

Safety, redefined for a new era
Volvo Cars’ reputation for safety remains central to the EX60. From its boron-steel safety cage and redesigned front bumper to its advanced software systems, the car is engineered to understand both its surroundings and its driver. A world-first multi-adaptive safety belt personalises protection by adjusting to the occupant’s body, seating position and – via external sensors – crash speed and direction. In the event of an accident, the EX60 is also designed to automatically call for help.
For Ines Djurdjevic, safety has long been the deciding factor. The mother of three girls has set 2026 as the year she will finally get her driver’s license, having previously hesitated due to safety concerns. Learning about the EX60’s protective structure and driver monitoring systems has helped shift that mindset. “It makes driving feel less intimidating,” she explains. “Like the car is really there to support you.”
Another core safety feature is Volvo Cars’ award-winning Driver Understanding System, which detects driver fatigue or distraction and provides additional support when attention slips. During a workshop highlighting behavioural safety, Volvo’s Senior Safety Technical Leader Mikael Ljung Aust encouraged guests to reflect on the importance of recharging not just cars, but people.
Scandinavian design, inside and out
The EX60’s exterior reflects Volvo’s philosophy of refined efficiency. A low front, gently sloping roofline and tapered body sides enhance aerodynamic performance while maintaining generous interior space. The exterior colour palette takes its cues from nature, ranging from 'Ice White' and 'Aurora Silver' through to 'Forest Lake'.
Inside, the EX60 is a tribute to Scandinavian restraint and material innovation. Designed at Volvo’s West Coast studio overlooking forest landscapes, the interior draws directly from nature. Volvo Cars’ Senior Colour & Material Design Manager Sara Erichsen Susnjar explains that the colour palette reflects Scandinavian light and terrain: 'Dawn', a soft grey-beige; 'Charcoal', a deep black; and 'Cardamom', an earthy brown.

Upholstery options include supple Nappa leather alongside Nordico, Volvo’s premium leather alternative made from bio-attributed PVC and 100% recycled polyester. Known for her minimalist Scandinavian style, Törnegren says 'Dawn' immediately caught her eye, noting that even the architectural imagery on the inspiration boards reminded her of her own home – “where we already have an electric charging point installed,” she adds.
A fourth interior expression, 'Rye', debuts a tailored natural wool blend inspired by Scandinavian farmland. All wood veneers are responsibly sourced to FSC standards, reinforcing Volvo’s commitment to sustainability. With 27% recycled content, the EX60 achieves Volvo Cars’ lowest carbon footprint yet for a fully electric model.
The serene cabin experience is heightened by advanced air-purification technology, six ambient lighting themes – including a forest projection that mimics sunlight filtering through trees – and a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with headrest speakers in all four main seats. Apple Music with Dolby Atmos comes pre-installed, another Volvo first.

Built for every road ahead
Rounding out the line-up, the EX60 Cross Country introduces enhanced off-road capability, a new exterior shade – 'Frost Green' – and Cross Country detailing for a more adventurous expression of the model.
As Zouiten observed on the day of the launch, expectations for electric cars are higher than ever. “You want something that has all the best functions, all the best features. And today, the bar has been set very high.” During the global livestreamed reveal, Volvo Cars’ Chief Commercial Officer Erik Severinson described the EX60 as more than a car – a new beginning. As Volvo approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, the EX60 signals the start of a new era defined by innovation, safety and design. The future, it seems, is not just bright – it’s electric.
The EX60 is now available for order in European markets, with the US to follow in late spring. Availability of features and services mentioned above may differ between markets and variants. For more info, visit volvocars.com
