For her first-ever Oscars appearance, The Ugly Stepsister star Thea Sofie Loch Næss stepped onto the red carpet in a bespoke polka-dot gown by Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt. Here, the designer reveals how the playful custom look came together

Attending the Oscars is a milestone that undoubtedly graces the vision boards of many aspiring actors. For budding Norwegian star Thea Sofie Loch Næss, it’s a childhood dream that just came true – a Cinderella moment, if you will. Yesterday evening, the actor, whose film, The Ugly Stepsister, was up for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, debuted on the year’s most-watched red carpet, channelling a fresh and whimsical spirit in a custom polka-dot-speckled dress by Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt.

The look was styled by Paul Edwards, who reached out to Sjöstedt to create a bespoke get-up that, as the designer puts it, “breathed youth, playfulness and classic Hollywood glamour, without screaming ‘look at me’, as this was Thea’s first Oscar gala.” Sjöstedt’s eponymous brand proved the perfect choice for Loch Næss’s big moment, as the concept aligned “so well with our signature design language in terms of femininity, playfulness, craft and couture heritage.”
