For the first time, Scandinavian stars are officially checking into the main cast of The White Lotus, as Sweden’s Frida Gustavsson and Norway’s Tobias Santelmann join the hotly anticipated fourth season set in France

For the first time, Scandinavian talent is officially checking into The White Lotus. Swedish star Frida Gustavsson and Norwegian actor Tobias Santelmann have officially joined the cast of the forthcoming fourth season, marking a notable Nordic moment for Mike White’s Emmy-winning satire.

While the series has long drawn from an international ensemble, Scandinavia has largely been absent from its guest list – aside from a smaller appearance by Swedish-Thai actor Praya Lundberg in season three. The pair join an already formidable cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Coogan, Vincent Cassel and Heather Graham – underscoring the series’ ongoing strategy of pairing Hollywood heavyweights with emerging international talent.

Season four is expected to unfold in France, reportedly spanning Paris and the French Riviera, with Saint-Tropez among the rumoured filming locations — a suitably glamorous backdrop for creator White’s signature on-screen mix of wealth, social tension and mystery. Like previous instalments set in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand, the new season will follow a fresh group of guests and hotel staff across a single eventful week at another White Lotus property. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, White has already hinted that audiences can expect the show’s trademark dark twists to continue, with “more murders” still firmly on the cards.

For Gustavsson, the role marks another major international step following turns in Vikings: Valhalla, Faithless, and Nordic drama Clark. Santelmann, meanwhile, arrives fresh from standout performances in Exit and Netflix’s forthcoming Harry Hole adaptation.

Production is expected to begin shortly this year, with the new season likely arriving in 2027, giving viewers plenty of time to speculate which guests might not make it home from the Riviera.
