Coats are practically closet magic. When swathing yourself in the right silhouette, even the most tired outfit – whether its threadbare sweats or a combination of casual basics – is given a certain je ne sais quoi. Likewise, floor-skimming wool coats have a sense of gravitas, a dramatic flair, if you will. Few garments can instantly transform a look from haphazardly mundane to intentionally elevated, but the right coat is certainly one of these wardrobe staples.

No one knows the importance of a good coat like we do the Nordics. When most of the era is spent bracing for chilly mornings and freezing nights, the right outerwear becomes essential – that's why we've scoured for the very best that the region has to offer. Whether you're in favour of an oversized silhouette or a tailored fit, double-breasted or asymmetrically buttoned, we have gathered our favourite wool coats from local designers and Scandinavian brands below.
