From healthy and light to full on indulgence, here's the best places for a weekend treat in the Swedish capital

A weekend activity that is pretty much always a winner in Stockholm (no the matter company, weather or location), is brunching – starting the day with the combination of meeting friends and family over delectable food and thirst-quenching drinks can never really go wrong.

Fortunately, Sweden's capital city has a wide range of restaurants and cafes to keep your brunch options fresh. We've gathered some of our favourites below, with dishes and drinks for all kinds of taste buds and moods.

1

Bodybuddy

For refreshing smoothie bowls, delicious salads, delectable sweet and savoury waffles and freshly squeezed juices, Bodybuddy is the spot for a fresh start to the weekend, perhaps after a yoga class at Yogayama's Östermalm studio below, or before a shopping spree in Norrmalm, near the restaurant's second location. Don’t miss their remarkable 'Coco bud' and their famous banana bread made with a secret recipe (yes, we've asked; no, they wouldn't tell us). And make sure to get a spot on their outdoor terrace if it’s sunny. Bodybuddy's prices range from around €15 for main dishes to approximately €5 for drinks and small treats.

Pom & Flora

Avocado on rye, yoghurt bowls, summer porridges and freshly-baked croissants can be found at both Vasastan and Södermalm locations of this healthy eatery. Portions are relatively small (though reasonably priced), which means more room to indulge from the menu. Favourites include the açaí smoothie bowl, the rhubarb yoghurt bowl, scrambled eggs and the vitamin-heavy juices. A plus is the option for gluten-free bread, and if you really fall in love with the place don't forget to check out their own cookbook, available to purchase at both locations.

Vasastan, Odengatan 39, 113 51 Stockholm

3

À la Lo café & cantine

Run by a mother and daughter and created due to their passion for France, this new plant-based gem on Birger Jarlsgatan is a must if you crave something fresh, healthy and utterly satisfying. Their Turkish yoghurt bowl and the levain with avocado and cream cheese are to die for, and we also love their 'Pain perdu', which is their own version of French toast and is only available during the weekend brunch. The fairly priced, creative dishes, gorgeous interior and fun people-watching opportunities will definitely inspire you. We're already dreaming of more locations from this gem opening in the future.

4

Banacado

Gluten-free, plant-based and free from raffinated sugars – and with an açaí-bowl rumoured to be one of the very best in town – Banacado's menu (which is a tad more expensive compared to Pom & Flora, for instance) provides a health fix as part of their nourishing weekend brunch. Their drinks list includes options such as matcha latte, turmeric shots, green juices and Chicca Roast, and their homemade chocolate chip cookie is the perfect dessert to-go. We also love the cute interior, resembling a diner coated in pastels mixed with oil paintings, books and plants to give the feel of a cosy living room.

5

Nybrogatan 38

A quaint and feel-at-home sanctuary in the heart of Östermalm, Nybrogatan 38 serves up classic dishes such as eggs benedict, burgers and American-style pancakes, as well as their own version of Caesar salad (with halloumi and crispy avocado) and scrambled eggs with truffle. This is the perfect restaurant to enjoy a brunch with the family or friends before hitting the town for some shopping. Though it's on the pricier side, the spot's mouth-watering dishes are certainly worth every penny.

6

Café Pascal

Café Pascal is pretty much always busy, which is why we are happy they have two locations, one on Södermalm and one by Odenplan. It is easy to understand the reason behind the buzz since it’s absolutely impossible to choose what to indulge in. You can relish homemade bread and buns, salads, freshly roasted coffee, juices and more. If a savoury treat is the name of your game, the hot smoked salmon salad with pardina lentils and dill mayo is a must-order.

Odenplan, Norrtullsgatan 4, 113 29 Stockholm

7

Sthlm Brunch Club

According to locals, Sthlm Brunch Club is the best brunch in Vasastan. Even better, it's served all week long and from early morning until afternoon. There might be a bit of a wait for a table but they make up for it by offering you the most delicious, reasonably priced and extremely Instagram-friendly dishes such as fluffy American pancakes, avocado toast, eggs benedict and bagels.

8

Stora Bageriet

With their large selection of artisan breads and pastries, Stora Bageriet (meaning 'the big bakery'), situated in Östermalm and Vasastan is where to get your carb fix. This place really shows how something simple like bread and butter can be incredibly tasty, and we absolutely love their €7 'Danish Breakfast', which includes levain bread, butter, cheese and homemade marmalade. Another delicious option is their €8 'Smooth Wheat Porridge' – traditional oatmeal with seasonal topping and whipped yoghurt. The Scandinavian interior gives a refreshing feel to it all and the larger tables make it possible to bring groups of friends, or your computer to catch up with some work.

Villa Dagmar

Östermalm’s recent hotel addition, Villa Dagmar is not only one of Stockholm’s hottest places for a staycation, but also hosts one of the best brunches in town on the weekends. The courtyard, à la hotel Costes in Paris, has a very international feel to it and the atmosphere almost makes it feel like you’ve left Scandinavia for a little while. Their menu includes both a wide selection of cocktails and alcohol-free options, as well as their famous pizzas, salads and burgers. Don’t forget to try their Citron dessert, which is a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds, and afterwards check out their curated shop right next to the restaurant.

Boketto at Blique by Nobis

With a menu including sections such as 'a whole lot of eggs', 'give me gluten', 'vegan & veggy', and 'sweets', you know there are going to be delicious dishes for everyone at Boketto. A few favourites are the chicken and waffles and American pancakes, and don’t miss their extensive drinks menu with everything from creative cocktails to sweet shakes. The whole hotel, including the amazing rooftop bar Arc, is also worth checking out while you’re here.

Mahalo

One of the freshest brunches in town comes courtesy of Mahalo, a vegan café with three central locations: Vasastan, Södermalm, and Kungsholmen. Offering sweet and savory dishes, as well as smoothies, juices, and protein shakes crafted from the finest ingredients, highlights of Mahalo’s menu include the pitaya bowl, loaded sweet potato fries, and baked oats blueberry crumble. If you’re visiting during peak brunch time, prepare to queue for a bit, but we promise it’s worth the wait!

Gast

Love your coffee just right, enjoyed with a wholesome meal? Then we recommend heading to Gast in Norrmalm, a café that prides itself on delicious specialty coffee and delectable brunch treats, boasting a Brooklyn vibe with its lofty, industrial interiors. With its central location and fairly priced menu, it's the perfect pit stop during your next retail therapy excursion. Fuel up for the day with dishes like the spicy tuna sandwich, soft scrambled eggs, and porridge with vanilla-poached rhubarb, whipped yoghurt, and cardamom sugar.

Artilleriet

Dubbed ‘Östermalm’s cosiest brunch,’ Artilleriet offers a luxe dining experience with a mouth-watering menu that is a premium choice on this list. Enveloped in warm, elegant decor with rich wood accents and soft lighting, the restaurant provides an inviting atmosphere where you can sip Mimosas for hours while indulging in dishes like eggs royale, shakshuka, steak tartare, and fried halloumi salad with avocado and quinoa. The attentive service and charming ambiance make it a perfect spot for a leisurely brunch. If the weather allows, grab a table on the spot's expansive terrace and soak in some sun while relishing your meal.

Located in the hip Södermalm area, Fern and Fika (formerly Sthlm Raw) is a plant-based eatery dedicated to delectable delights free from additives, gluten, lactose, and granulated sugar. From nutrient-packed fruity smoothies to warm bowls, soups, and salads with flavours from around the world, this hidden gem is the ultimate destination for a health kick.

The Greasy Spoon

A classic brunch destination nestled in Södermalm, Odenplan, Kungsholmen and Norrmalm, The Greasy Spoon began with the idea of introducing Swedes to a hearty, traditional English breakfast and has since evolved into much more. With its all-day brunch, guests can savour plates like avocado eggs benedict, rhubarb and custard French toast, chopped lax bagel, and, of course, a full English breakfast. Prices for the generously sized main dishes range from €15-€20, while a steaming cup of coffee or tea costs around €4. Looking to spice up your brunch? Pair your meal with a Bloody Mary or a refreshing Mimosa.

Grand Hôtel

Didn't book that trip to the south of France this summer? Fret not. At the opulent Grand Hôtel's (which overlooks the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan) brunch, served at the Grand Soleil restaurant, you'll get to relish the most delicious flavours from the French and Italian Riviera. With a menu comprising dishes like Croque Monsieur, Salade Niçoise, and Eggs Benedict with smoked ham and horseradish, there are tasty options for everyone, topped with a broad, summery drink selection from Champagne to zingy spritzers. With its sun-drenched terrace and live DJs entertaining the crowd all day, this spot is guaranteed to offer great vibes every weekend.

Where is the best breakfast in Stockholm?

While this article rounds up the best brunch spots to explore in Stockholm, all of the restaurants and cafés listed above also double as great choices for a delicious breakfast in the Swedish capital. Most of these places, like Mahalo, Gast, Stora Bageriet, Sthlm Brunch Club, and Café Pascal, open in the early hours of the morning and serve the same menu that they do on weekends during brunch hours, which typically fall between 11:00 and 16:00. Consider this your guide for the ultimate breakfast places in town as well.

Where is the best brunch buffet in Stockholm?

Who wouldn't love a brunch buffet, with its endless options for food and the opportunity to fuel up as much as we like? Stockholm boasts many places that offer a hearty brunch buffet during the weekend. However, unfortunately, they are closed for the holiday season and will welcome guests again in August. Once they resume, we recommend trying the tasty spread at Ocra in Norra Djurgårdsstaden or heading over to Knut in Vasastan or Norrmalm for a buffet that bursts with Nordic flavors. Additionally, boutique destinations like Hotel Skeppsholmen, Hotel Diplomat and Hotel Kung Carl in the city centre will bring back their renowned weekend brunch buffets come autumn.
