As the wistful sound of a harp filled the raw and dimmed space of Studio X, Skall Studio whisked us away to the lush meadows and utter tranquillity of the English countryside

For autumn/winter 2022, sisters Julie and Marie Skall drew inspiration from a philosophy where humans and animals can live together in harmony. Having been heavily influenced by Linda and Paul McCartney and their children – especially Stella McCartney, the collection focuses on a mood where life at the farm and a pure love towards animals is at the centre of living. “In our opinion, humans are obliged to speak on behalf of the animals and use the voice that animals do not have,” the designers explain.

Although already embracing sustainability and never using leather or fur, this season the Skall sisters have increased the use of recycled cashmere and wool, whilst also introducing a new eco-friendly material – recycled cotton. Staying true to the Skall Studio colour palette, a calming blend of muted earthy tones including moss green, dusty blue, roasted brown and stone grey are combined with jet black and optic white. Relying on clean shapes inspired by German-French sculpture artist Jean Arp, oversized and flowing silhouettes are mixed with fitted tailoring.

Paying homage to the McCartney family with a reference to their old family photographs, brown and white stripes, mandarin collars and wide-leg corduroy trousers lend the garments a carefree 1970s feel. Playing perfectly into the vintage mood, breezy bohemian elements are added through embroidery and cutwork. Locally produced signature Danish knitwear makes the perfect partner to be layered with the weighty jackets and coats made of recycled wool, while water-resistant jackets in organic cotton instantly remind us of the crisp English countryside.
