Though her birthday isn’t until Monday, Princess Isabella of Denmark has already debuted a pitch-perfect birthday look
Though Princess Isabella of Denmark, the eldest daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary, doesn’t turn 18 until Monday (an Easter birthday!), the celebrations are well and truly underway. Things kicked off on Friday at Aarhus City Hall with a charming tribute to young local talents (there was even a fashion show featuring sustainability-focused designs of young local designers). Last night, however, was Princess Isabella’s most major fashion moment, as she and her family headed to The Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage for a performance held in her honour.

For the occasion, Princess Isabella looked utterly, well, princess-like in a sweeping midnight blue gown with a cinched waist courtesy of couture designer Jesper Høvring. Though the entire gown was dotted with glittering crystals, which gorgeously caught the light as the Princess walked the red carpet, the most striking detail was the cluster of crystals forming an organic, flower-like design on the back of the gown. She completed the extraordinary look with diamond pendant earrings, which had previously been worn by Queen Mary.

The rest of the royal family complemented Princess Isabella’s look on her big day, sticking to a palette of blue, black and silver. Queen Mary looked both modern and elegant in a black silk top and embellished fringed skirt from Danish brand By Malene Birger (she wore the same look, which comes from Malene Birger’s spring/summer 2007 collection to a Council of State Dinner at Amalienborg Palace last year). Princess Josephine, meanwhile, wore a deep blue jumpsuit with a cape, also by Jesper Høvring, and blue topaz drop earrings from Georg Jensen (also previously worn by Queen Mary). King Frederik, meanwhile, looked dapper and on-theme in a blue tuxedo. Count Nikolai and Count Felix also made a rare royal appearance for the occasion, donning coordinating blue velvet smoking jackets.
Though the royal family was expertly coordinated, Princess Isabella’s dramatic look made it clear that this was her day – a look fit for a birthday and certainly fit for a princess on her birthday.
