As the Moomins make their Vogue debut on the cover of our October/November issue, we take a moment to look back on the 10 Moomin collaborations we're still coveting

Whether first discovered in childhood or only stumbled upon in adulthood, the Moomins are enchanting characters that have captured the hearts of generations – especially in Scandinavia. These gentle, wide-eyed creatures, born from the imagination of Finnish-Swedish author and artist Tove Jansson, have become much more than storybook figures. In the 80 years since their debut, the Moomins have evolved into beloved cultural icons.

Over the decades, countless brands have jumped aboard the Moomin bandwagon, eager to capture a touch of that soft, nostalgic magic in their own creations. From fashion and homeware to children’s essentials and high-end design, the Moomins’ squishable snouts and endearing personalities have sparked a wave of collaborations that balance whimsy with everyday function.

Now, as we celebrate not only eight decades of Moomin magic but also their appearance on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia’s Issue 26, we’re spotlighting our all-time favourite Moomin collaborations – creations that both honour Jansson’s enchanting world and bring a little piece of Moominvalley into our own.

Rue de Tokyo

In early 2025, the Moomins embarked on a stylish new adventure, teaming up with Copenhagen-based apparel label Rue de Tokyo for a thoughtfully crafted collaboration. The collection offered a minimalist reimagining of Tove Jansson’s beloved characters, rendered as elegant line drawings. Subtly scrawled across an array of effortlessly wearable pieces – from caps and work shirts to tote bags – the iconic Finnish friends brought a touch of Nordic whimsy to Rue de Tokyo’s contemporary design sensibility.

Artek

Marking two significant anniversaries – 90 years of Artek and 80 years of the Moomins - the Finnish design powerhouse collaborated with the Moomins to create a collection that celebrated inclusivity and togetherness. Launched earlier this year, the collection saw two of Artek's most iconic designs, the Stool 60 and Cabinet 250, reimagined with doodle-like line drawings and handwritten texts from Tove Jansson's earliest notebooks.

These fanciful markings were meticulously carved into the wood, evoking the feeling of furtive scribbles on a school desk, whilst blending the playful spirit of the Moomins with Artek's timeless, functional design.

Adidas and the Moomins have teamed up several times over the years, most recently in 2023. The global sportswear giant joined forces with the Finnish icons for a winter-wonderland-inspired collaboration, drawing from Tove Jansson’s comic Moomin’s Winter Follies. The collection featured T-shirts, fluffy waist bags, vests and sweatshirts – cosy, playful pieces adorned with scenes of Moomintroll learning to ice skate, bringing a touch of Nordic charm to cold-weather dressing.

Arabia

It was back in the 1950s that Moomin first teamed up with Arabia to curate a selection of crockery. Depicting scenes from Tove Jansson's unmistakable comics, the mugs, jugs, bowls, plates, and other items offered by the Finnish brands are now cult classics, designed to be desired as collectables. Pick one or two mugs to add to your collection (the Little My and Meadow mugs are a staple in the Vogue Scandinavia kitchen) or rehaul your entire dining set with the Moomins; the choice is yours, and the possibilities are endless.

BIBS

From their very beginning, the Moomins were created for children, making a collaboration with a kid-focused brand more than fitting. To celebrate the Moomins' 80th anniversary, the beloved Finnish trolls have partnered with Copenhagen-based baby brand BIBS, offering a nostalgic nod to childlike wonder. The collaboration brings Tove Jansson's iconic characters – like the independent Little My and ever-curious Moomintroll – to life on multiple pacifier designs. "Partnering with Moomin felt natural – both of us value childhood as something sacred, messy and full of wonder," explains BIBS CEO, Henrik Larsen. "This collection is about letting parents and kids tap into that spirit, together."
