In the wake of the Love is Blind Sweden reunion on Netflix, fan favourite couple Niklas Agild and Karin Westerberg sit down with Vogue Scandinavia for their very first interview, in which they discuss that big reveal

Spoilers for the Love is Blind Sweden Season 2 reunion below

At 9AM this morning, fans of Love is Blind Sweden fired up Netflix to take in the much anticipated reunion. We were met with a big surprise: fan favourites Niklas Agild and Karin Westerberg, who wed in the season finale, are expecting their first child. What’s more, Westerberg is nine months pregnant with a baby girl and ready to pop at any moment. The couple even had a baby bag ready at the reunion taping in case Westerberg went into labour on set.

When I call up the couple for their very first post-show interview just moments after the reunion airs, Westerberg is past her due date. “It can happen any second,” confirms Westerberg with a smile. It’s a wild moment in the couple’s lives and, unsurprisingly, both of their phones are currently blowing up. “Everything happens exactly at the same time – it’s insane,” says Agild. “We just moved to our apartment, the little girl is coming and everything on TV is coming out at the same time…”

The big reunion reveal allowed Agild, who recently pivoted careers to pursue acting, an opportunity to flex his acting chops. Originally appearing on the reunion couch solo, he played it a bit mysterious when asked by host Jessica Almenäs why Westerberg was absent. In fact, his furrowed brow suggested something might be wrong. “I know what was going to happen, more or less, but I didn’t want to plan what I was going to say exactly,” he says of his reunion performance. “Everyone was looking at me and I could feel the nerves were coming and I just wanted to stay in that nervous feeling and just try to look a little bit miserable.” Being separated from his about-to-give-birth wife without access to his phone naturally made the situation a little extra stressful. “It was a long time before Karin came in, so I was like, ‘Where is she? Has she gone to the hospital?’,” he says. “So staying in that feeling made it pretty easy to look uncomfortable.”

Though there were some whispers online that Westerberg was pregnant, the couple more or less managed to keep the news a secret – a feat that became more complicated once the show began to air and neighbours started recognising them on the street. “In the beginning it was fine because no one knew us but since the episodes came out it’s been tougher – especially the last days,” says Agild. “If we were out someone comes up to us in the suburbs and say, ‘Oh, congratulations’. We’ve seen rumours on TikTok but no one has taken pictures.” Westerberg, meanwhile, did her best to conceal the pregnancy in recent weeks. “I’ve been wearing mostly Niklas’ clothes and a big trench coat and a hat,” says Westerberg. “I’m walking around looking down at the ground.”

Still, Agild and Westerberg were encouraged by Netflix to live their lives as normal aside from one major directive: absolutely no posting. “A lot of people get to put out their pregnancy photos on Instagram but we haven’t even been able to say that we’re together,” says Agild. “I have family that don’t even know about Karin – uncles and stuff – so we didn’t have that opportunity to show the world.”

So the couple took it upon themselves to keep the pregnancy a secret precisely so they could enjoy a big moment – akin to the classic “we’re pregnant” Instagram post – at the reunion. “To be honest I was panicking in the end because I couldn’t find anything to wear that was both comfortable and looked nice and felt nice,” says Westerberg. She ultimately opted for a fitted long-sleeve fuchsia gown with structured shoulders, tailored perfectly to her baby bump.

The last time Westerberg had to make such a major outfit decision was for the reveal, in which she and Agild saw each other for the first time after getting engaged in the pods. She opted for a form-fitting, one shouldered yellow dress. “I was actually really uncomfortable because I was so scared that I was going to sweat,” she says. “It’s a tight dress so it really shows.” Luckily her fears were unfounded. “You did great,” says Agild. “I didn’t find any sweat when I looked at you.”

A lot of people get to put out their pregnancy photos on Instagram but we haven’t even been able to say that we’re together.

Niklas Agild

Early fan favourites, Westerberg and Agild had a virtually conflict-free run on the beloved show from the moment they locked in on each other in the pods. Going into the experiment, Agild was a bit jaded by the dating scene in general. “I felt like it was tougher and tougher to find someone, and the grass is always greener and you can always find another person just one swipe away,” he says. “I just felt like I just got further and further away from meeting someone and then when this came up, I was like, ‘This is the total opposite, why not try it?’.” When producers approached Agild initially, he turned it down. “I was like, no, I’m not going to do this, I’ll find my wife another way,” he says. But after seeing the success of the couples of season one – some of which have had children since the show – Agild thought it might be for him.

Westerbeg, who was also inspired by the success of the couples in season one, was signed up for the experiment by her twin brother. “I have Nils to thank for all of this,” says Agild.

Anyone who watches a lot of reality dating shows knows that it’s a tricky forum to navigate as an actor. Cast members who are pursuing acting are often accused of, in Bachelor parlance, being there for the wrong reasons. So did Westerberg have any reservations when Agild revealed he was pursuing acting? “I did have a lot of questions about it that were not shown on the show. I had a lot of thoughts about it – that’s for sure,” she says, laughing. “But then the more we got to know each other and I got to know his personality, I wasn’t worried about it after a while. But of course in the beginning I had some questions.” ‘

Agild, meanwhile, is quick to point out that going on Love is Blind Sweden doesn’t translate to a massive following, playfully calling himself a C-list celebrity (at the time of writing, he has 22k followers on Instagram). He did have some reservations about putting himself out there on Netflix. “People will have opinions on what you do – that’s how it works. People sit at home and eat popcorn and judge you,” he says, adding that he imagines the show will “open some doors and close some others”. Navigating the extra attention as a couple, however, has made things much easier. “We do it together and that’s the most important thing,” he says.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t only the viewers who were shocked by Agild and Westerberg’s big pregnancy reveal; their cast mates were equally surprised. Though some suspected something was up. “They knew something was up but they couldn’t place it,” says Agild. “Someone said, ‘I thought you were going to come in with a dog’.”
