With a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship, Louis Vuitton continues to shape the art of living with its newly-unveiled Home Collections. Here, Patrick Jouin - a French visionary and one of the distinguished designers behind the Signature Collection of furniture and lighting – speaks to Vogue Scandinavia about penning a new chapter in the house’s interior legacy
In 1858, Louis Vuitton introduced its first trunk. More than just a beautiful piece of luggage, it transformed the art of travel. Over a century and a half later, the brand’s latest interior creations – recently unveiled to discerning Milan Design Week attendees – are not simply homewares. They are signifiers of the art of living.
That art of living has always been intrinsic to Louis Vuitton’s design philosophy. Long before “lifestyle” became a buzzword, the House was dreaming up ways to infuse daily life with creativity and craft. From the ingenious 1885 Bed Trunk to the multifunctional Library Trunk, Louis Vuitton’s pieces have consistently balanced elegance and utility – setting the standard for what modern luxury could be.
In 2012, that vision expanded into the realm of interiors with the launch of Objets Nomades: a collection of limited-edition designs from some of the world’s most celebrated creative minds, including Estúdio Campana, India Mahdavi, and Patricia Urquiola. Now, in 2025, the House turns the page once more with its most expansive design chapter to date: the Louis Vuitton Home Collections.

This new venture encompasses five distinct categories: Objets Nomades, the newly launched Signature Collection (furniture and lighting), Decoration, Tableware, and exceptional gaming. It’s a complete universe of design, one that invites us not only to admire but to live within. To mark the occasion, Louis Vuitton pays homage to pioneering creatives, with tributes to Italian futurist Fortunato Depero and a fresh revival of Charlotte Perriand’s visionary textile work.
At the heart of this unveiling is the Louis Vuitton Signature Collection: a standout expression of form, function, and savoir-faire. Marrying modern aesthetics with the meticulous craftsmanship the House is known for, the collection spans everything from modular sofas and sculptural armchairs to marquetry-clad tables and atmospheric lighting. Among its leading voices is French designer Patrick Jouin, who brings his refined sensibility to the collection.

“Collaborating with Louis Vuitton on the Signature Collection is a unique opportunity to engage deeply with a brand that has always epitomised excellence and timeless innovation,” Jouin shares. “It’s not just about designing individual pieces but about creating a complete living experience, where objects seamlessly integrate into everyday life with elegance and subtlety. The chance to play with the House's rich language – its couture codes, its savoir-faire – was incredibly inspiring,” he says.
Jouin’s approach is grounded in material storytelling, choosing leather, wood, onyx, and marquetry not just for their beauty but for the way they age, evolve, and interact with our lives. “Leather, for example, has a natural ability to evolve over time, carrying memory and gaining character, which perfectly aligns with the idea of objects that become part of our lives,” Jouin notes. “This choice is also a direct echo of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunks, with their leather cladding and craftsmanship which symbolise resilience and refinery.” Meanwhile, the wood marquetry was a nod to the mastery found in the house's fashion archives. “It allows for a surface that feels alive, one that invites touch and interaction. Each material was carefully selected to create a contrast between softness and structure, sophistication and ease,” Jouin explains.

That's exactly what the Signature Collection invites: interaction, intimacy, and discovery. From the tactile warmth of the Puzzle table to the enveloping comfort of the Lagoon sofa, each piece is designed to be lived with, not just looked at. “For me, joy is found in the simple act of gathering together,” Jouin says. “It's in the invitation of the Lagoon sofa, which is not only a visual delight but also designed for comfort and flexibility. Its generous in its form and its presence, it’s a piece that makes you want to host, to gather in the evening with loved ones.”
Louis Vuitton’s long-standing devotion to craftsmanship is evident in every stitch, join, and curve. “Every detail is purposefully crafted, contributing to an environment that enhances daily life, without overwhelming it,” Jouin explains. “We wanted these pieces to seamlessly integrate into our everyday routines – objects that feel intuitive, welcoming, and effortless, as though they’ve always belonged.”

Looking forward, Jouin sees the Signature Collection not as a conclusion but as the beginning of something enduring. “The future of Louis Vuitton Home Collections is about continuing to innovate while staying true to the House's core values – heritage, craftsmanship and timeless elegance,” he says. “Luxury, practicality, and timeless beauty will always be at the heart of Louis Vuitton.”
“The future is about creating furniture that resonates with people, that adapts to their needs, and that integrates seamlessly into both modern and timeless settings,” Jouin goes on. “Louis Vuitton's ability to maintain its spirit of innovation while staying true to its roots will continue to define the future of its home collections.”
