"It’s hardly a leap to say that everyone in the world is talking about Robyn right now, and I feel so proud that Vogue Scandinavia is part of this cultural moment."
The term icon can be a bit overused – especially in fashion – but Robyn really is an icon. Who else could more or less go off the radar for eight years and return as relevant and powerful as ever (not that we ever stopped listening to her music, especially ‘Dancing On My Own’). It was practically a given that when Robyn would grace us with a new album, I would feature her on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia. She is a true original, the ultimate Scandinavian pop star. Having her on this cover feels just right.
Though Robyn is larger than life, she was delightfully down-to-earth and personable on our cover shoot. Perhaps because we were in her hometown of Stockholm, perhaps because she’s met some of us – myself included – many times over the years. But when the camera is on her, Robyn slips effortlessly into that icon mode, commanding the room and really going for it. In our cover story, written beautifully by our music editor Doris Daga, Robyn, who can be a bit unknowable at times, opens up about motherhood, overcoming heartbreak and doing things her own way. It’s hardly a leap to say that everyone in the world is talking about Robyn right now, and I feel so proud that Vogue Scandinavia is part of this cultural moment.

This issue is full of true originals. Take, for instance, Gustaf Westman, the cover star of our second Vogue Scandinavia Living section who, in just five years, has established himself as the hottest designer to come out of our region. Or Kristoffer Borgli, the Norwegian director behind The Drama, one of the buzziest films of the year (it stars Robert Pattinson and Zendaya). For his editorial, Kristoffer proposed that he commission an unsettlingly realistic model of his own head, which he ultimately photographed himself. It was an idea so out there and so unique, we simply had to say yes to it.
On the fashion side, we have our very first brother-sister editorial. Kelly Gale has been a friend of the magazine since the beginning, appearing on an early cover with her now-husband Joel Kinnaman. Though I’ve known her since her early modelling days, I must admit, I didn’t know she had a brother. And then we met Jamie. Not only is their close sibling connection palpable (it comes through in the images), they look uncannily similar. Clad in the season’s most covetable tailoring and shot on a beach near her home in Los Angeles, the Gale siblings have the beguiling air of ‘90s supermodels.
Finally, we have a fantastical bridal story starring the year’s ultimate bride, Desiré Inglander. I have been part of Desiré’s upcoming wedding from the beginning, when we helped fiancé Mondo Duplantis plan their engagement in the Hamptons (which was also captured in a photoshoot for this magazine). Ahead of the couple’s June wedding, Desiré test-drives some of the season’s most extraordinary bridal looks, some of which are couture, braving the cold at Confidencen, a theatre in the park of Ulriksdals palace, and working with costars Monty the horse and Leif the white peacock. I just have to say it: the result is iconic.
I hope you discover something new – something truly original – on these pages. Something to keep you inspired until the spring weather comes.
