Icelandic-Chinese songstress Laufey, fresh from her first-ever show in Brazil and the announcement of her new album A Matter of Time, carved out a moment to grace New York City for a Valentino-clad red carpet weekend

Icelandic-Chinese singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Laufey has built a global fan base (and the title of Spotify's most-streamed jazz artist ever) by making nostalgic sounds feel fresh again, with a kind of whimsy that extends effortlessly to her fashion choices. Now, fresh off her first show in Brazil and the announcement of her third album A Matter of Time, Laufey landed in New York City to deliver a double dose of Valentino-clad moments.

Her first stop? The premiere of Materialists, a feel-good summer rom-com, where she walked the carpet in a sweeping black floral gown from Valentino's spring/summer ’25 line up – Alessandro Michele’s first collection for the house. With its Peter Pan collar, bow tie and black lace gloves, the look – plucked from the Paris runway – struck that sweet spot between classic and kitsch.

The next day, Laufey arrived at Radio City Music Hall for the 78th Annual Tony Awards in a monochromatic grey ensemble in tune with the star's retro-romantic aesthetic– this time, from Valentino's Pre-Fall 2025 collection, A structured blazer and tiered skirt were styled with a flowing blouse peppered with polka-dots – a favoured pattern of the singer’s.

But the true scene-stealer? The accessories. A 1950s-style hand-painted cat minaudiere from Valentino’s SS25 collection, first seen clutched by a model on the SS25 runway, added a playful touch, while white lace gloves and matching tights tied the look together in a way that felt unmistakably Laufey.
