Herskind - SS24

By Josefin Forsberg

Hosted in the heralded halls of Copenhagen’s Royal School of Art, Herskind’s spring/summer '24 collection is an ode to the (sophisticated) everyday woman

For Herskind, building on heritage is a core principle – be it through timeless designs with a lingering longevity or external inputs, such as the choice of show venue. “Growing up in Denmark, we are enveloped by the legacy of renowned Danish architects, artists, and furniture designers,” founder Birgitte Herskind told Vogue Scandinavia ahead of the show. “My aim is to add to this heritage by crafting collections that seamlessly align with our Danish design legacy,” she adds. This notion was perfectly embodied at the brand’s latest runway presentation, where the buzz settled over show-goers gathered in the courtyard of the Royal School of Art.

This season, Herskind wanted her collection to embody “real life itself.” Encapsulating a modern individual's everyday life, albeit sophisticated, Herskind honed in on sleek contours, enduring forms, and well-selected materials through a “careful process of refinement.” This involved eliminating material options that are exclusively suited for special occasions or too delicate for regular use. Instead, she concentrated on fabrics that “actually work for wearers in real life.” Motion is also explored through materials in the collection, where light, flowy satin meets contrasting bold leather pieces.

As always, Herskind focused on her emblematic tailoring. For spring/summer '24, a continued exploration of proportions takes centre stage with the brand’s hallmark of oversized shoulders in focus. Rendered in an overall calming colour palette of 50-shades-of-white and earthy neutrals, with the occasional pop of gold, the cinched silhouettes spoke to Herskind’s attention to detail: a trench coat which boasted voluminous shoulders and an extended length. The fringe on a leather workwear jacket. The sweeping bias-cut skirts spotted alongside masculine blazers. All of which Herskind hopes “contribute to the elevated and understated luxury that characterises the SS24 look.”

“I'm urging people to adopt the idea of a carefully chosen wardrobe that goes beyond fleeting fads.” Instead, she hopes to “start a conversation about what true elegance really means – something connected to being aware, genuine, and having a refined taste.”
