The secret to Danish supermodel Helena Christensen’s spectacular glow? A considered combination of nature’s gifts, an ageless outlook and one game-changing technological treatment

For a woman who has travelled the world, graced countless magazine covers, and walked nearly every major runway, Danish supermodel Helena Christensen stays remarkably down to earth – literally. “Wherever I go, I try to find somewhere in nature to swim, or if I’m in a city, I walk through parks to be in nature,” she says. It’s easy to imagine her trekking barefoot through riverbeds, brushing against brambles. After all, we’ve previously explored her seaside summer house on Denmark’s northwest coast and wondered whether her regular cold plunges are the reason behind that covetable glow. But, she refutes any notion that her lifestyle is holistic. “It really isn’t, but there’s a lot of nature involved in my life,” she says. “And yes, lots of cold plunges.”

For someone so intrinsically linked to nature, Christensen doesn’t reject technology in her beauty routine. Instead, she welcomes select innovations that align with her no-fuss approach, including Ultherapy – a non-invasive ultrasound treatment she receives at Copenhagen-based aesthetic clinic N’AGE a few times a year. “Since I’m always outside, my skin is constantly exposed to the elements. I get a lot of freckles, which I love and sunspots, which I don’t,” says Christensen. “So Ultherapy is great for me because it not only tightens the skin but also brightens and evens out the skin tone.”

Founded in 2003 by Ida Bille Brahe, a former plastic surgery nurse, N’AGE began as an alternative to invasive procedures. “I witnessed firsthand the intense outcomes of surgery,” Bille Brahe recalls. “While the results can be dramatic, I felt there had to be a better way to achieve a refreshed, youthful look without going under the knife.” N’AGE was among the first in Denmark to introduce treatments like Restylane, setting the stage for an evolving landscape of aesthetic care. “Over the past two decades, I’ve watched the beauty landscape in Denmark evolve,” says Bille Brahe. Over time, her clinic has grown into a resource for those seeking thoughtful, effective methods to maintain a naturally refreshed appearance.

Today, N’AGE is the largest provider of Ultherapy in the Nordics and the first to bring Ultherapy Prime (the latest version of the treatment) to the region. Using focused ultrasound waves, Ultherapy sends heat deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and gradually firm the skin. Some lift is noticeable right away, but improvements become more pronounced as the body continues to produce new collagen in the following months. Bille Brahe praises the procedure’s simplicity: “It’s non-invasive, requires no downtime, and yields impressive results. I especially like how it tightens areas like the jawline, which is often where people first notice sagging.”

For Christensen, age also reflects from within. “I love trekking through rivers with my dog, climbing rocks, and using every bit of my strength to keep going,” she says. “That’s when I feel most confident. Just being out there, fully engaged with everything around me.” She believes that sense of wonder has kept her outlook youthful. “It’s almost like staying a child in how you see the world. You don’t really age if you keep that curiosity alive.”

Brahe shares a similar view. “Ageing is a natural part of life. It’s something we can’t escape, but I believe there’s so much beauty in the ageing process,” she says. Instead of fixating on chronological age, Brahe prefers to talk about biological and psychological ages, both of which can be influenced by one’s habits and outlook. It’s a perspective that speaks to Christensen’s own sensibilities. Whether braving cold water or letting ultrasound technology smooth out sun-worn skin, she exemplifies a modern approach to balanced beauty in a realm that often swings to extremes: stay grounded in what feels real and embrace just enough innovation to make a subtle difference.
