For her December edit, Vogue Scandinavia’s editor in chief and resident jewellery obsessive Martina Bonnier singles out green gemstones as the season’s defining thread. From the familiar pull of emeralds and tourmalines to the intrigue of tsavorites and agate, her 18 picks make a convincing case for going green
December has a way of sharpening our eye for the colour green: Fir trees, velvet ribbons, a sprig of mistletoe here and there. Against that backdrop, it feels entirely fitting that green gemstones are Vogue Scandinavia editor-in-chief and jewellery savant Martina Bonnier's focus this month.
When most people think of green stones, emeralds tend to dominate the conversation, prized for their depth, drama and long-standing links to royalty. “There is a history around emeralds,” Bonnier explains. “They’re one of those big stones everyone recognises. But there are so many other green stones that deserve attention: tourmalines, agates, tsavorites, diamonds.”
For something more classic yet no less striking, Bonnier points to Tiffany & Co.’s Soleste ring, where a central emerald is framed by a precise halo of diamonds set in platinum. And for those who prefer their jewellery with a wink, she recommends Ole Lynggaard’s Snake ring: an 18-carat gold serpent, traced with diamonds, coiled around a vivid green tourmaline.
Curious to dip a toe into the green gemstone world but not sure where to begin? Below, Bonnier’s edit of 18 pieces that make the case for green, no persuasion required.
