Kiln it: The ceramic pieces your jewellery and watch collection needs

By Martina Bonnier

This November, Vogue Scandinavia's jewellery-savvy editor-in-chief, Martina Bonnier, has spotted a definitive trend emerging: ceramics. This resurgence is not a fleeting moment but a fundamental re-evaluation of material and form, pushing the boundaries of traditional high jewellery. From sleek, minimalist bands to bold, sculptural statement pieces, ceramics' versatility and unique finish are making it the unexpected star of the season

Formed, fired, and finely rendered, ceramic jewellery is steadily making its way into the collections of discerning bijoux devotees. This intentional return to Mother Earth’s raw, malleable materials has caught the eye of Vogue Scandinavia’s editor-in-chief Martina Bonnier, signalling a tactile shift in the luzury accessories landscape.

“Ceramic is a material that has been around for a very long time,” Bonnier notes. “Some brands have always incorporated it, but right now we’re seeing it appear in new and unexpected ways.” She points to the contemporary reinterpretation of Cartier’s ‘Trinity’ ring as a compelling example. Another piece she champions is the Finnish-designed Oura ring, which now comes in sleek ceramic finishes rather than traditional metallic tones, adding an extra touch of understated cool to its tech-forward functionality.

For jewellery specifically, Bonnier notes that, in place of standard gold and silver, ceramic offers “a fresh, modern, and surprisingly expressive way to make a statement,” says Bonnier. For those curious to experiment, she recommends starting with rings: “They give a beautiful little hint of the trend, a subtle pop of colour and texture that is so fun.”

The timeless appeal of ceramic extends well into horology, too – a category Bonnier knows well. “For a true investment piece, look to the iconic J12 from Chanel,” she advises, noting that both the classic black and crisp white iterations are eternally sophisticated. “Alternatively, Bulgari)’s ‘Serpenti’ has this incredible shiny surface that is a bit more edgy and sporty.”

Curious to explore the ceramic trend but unsure where to begin? Below, find Bonnier’s edit of 12 ceramic jewellery pieces and 6 ceramic-accented watches destined to fire up your collection.
