This is how Madonna's daughter Lola styles the new Ganni x Dr. Martens boot

Ganni has been in good company this year – though the same could be said of its hand-picked collaborators, from Barbour to New Balance, Polestar and Ace & Tate. And now, the Danish favourite is seeing out 2023 with a bang, teaming up with Dr. Martens on a footwear collaboration that will have us stomping into the new year in true ‘90s grunge style.

The collaboration marks 10 years of Dr Marten’s Jadon boot, easily recognised as an icon by both fans and newcomers to the brand. Described by Ganni’s creative director Ditte Reffstrup as “the best of both worlds”, the boot boasts its signature towering platforms and contrast welt stitching. “I am forever inspired by the ‘90s, and with that, I have a love for the undertones of grunge,” Reffstrup says. “I grew up with the iconic shape of Dr. Martens' boots, and for me, it represents a sense of rebellion and marching to the beat of your own drum – something that we truly believe at Ganni.”

Amongst the signature Dr. Martens details are unmissable stamps of Ganni: spot the Danish brand’s signature boot nose and playful butterfly logo. The boot is also infused with the sustainable intent of both parties, utilising recycled materials like polyester and leather-free rubber alternatives.

As we would expect, the Ganni x Dr. Marents collaboration comes part and parcel with a crew of the best creatives. The playfully chaotic campaign imagery is shot by British photographer Grant James-Thomas, starring French musician and producer Oklou who described the shoot as being as joyful as "a nice spring roll". "The entire team was very friendly, the highlight was that at some put they've put my favourite music on the speakers," Oklou says.

Adding to the creative tour de force, the boot is to be feted in New York with none other than Madonna's daughter Lourdes 'Lola' Leon taking to the stage. While Lola (whose artist name is Lolahol) remains relatively tight-lipped about what the performance will entail, she does share with Vogue Scandinavia a couple of the tracks that she will drop, including 'Cuntradiction', 'Giovanni’s Room' and her new song 'Boy Next Door'. “I am excited to be a part of the Ganni x Dr. Martens launch, celebrating the iconic Jadon boot,” Lola tells us. “Both brands have a strong identity and sense of purpose. I love the confidence they both exude, allowing the artists they work with to just be themselves.”

It goes without saying that Lola will be stepping out in the new Jadon platform boot for her performance this evening, which she is set to style with a long, dark brown floral bodycon dress – look 20 from Ganni's spring/summer '24 runway show at Copenhagen Fashion Week. A gorgeously grunge moment.
