Envelope1976 - runway - AW22

"The Scandinavian way of living and our fascination with minimalism has been there for many years," Envelope1976's founder and creative director Celine Aagaard said ahead of the brand's debut runway show. This collection is about contrasts in life and in how we want to express ourselves, from day until night – and the day after tomorrow.  Our focus is seasonless simplicity. Having previously dabbled in colours, the AW22 collection is dedicated to the monochrome in a rigid palette of black, white, and cream - with dashes of silver. "It takes us back to where we started in 2018, and with a flashback from 1989 when Madonna released her fourth studio album," says Aagaard. "I was just a teenager with an extra-large mega poster over my bed of a woman in a lace corset, tulle skirt, and choker around her neck. The shearling is inspired by the 70s, as are the flare leather pants and fringe dresses."

As a brand who doesn't subscribe to the usual seasonal releases, Envelope1976 showed in-season with the autumn/winter 2022 collection walking down the runway. "For us, it is all about creating seasonless garments in good materials that can be used in various ways. In that way, you have many options with a smaller wardrobe," says Aagaard. "Building a timeless and seasonless wardrobe is essential for our way of thinking sustainability." The core idea behind the brand is that there is "no one way" to wear Envelope1976. "We are playing with textures and new knit techniques instead of colours, and all items are designed to be worn in multiple ways," says Aagaard. Instead the Norwegian designer adheres to certain keywords when creating her clothes, such as versatility, tailoring, fine cuts, and layering – all made from materials meant to last.
