As the creator behind the popular YouTube series I badrumsskåpet (in the bathroom cabinet), hairstylist and content creator Emelie Johansson – known as HairTalkByEmelie on Instagram – is used to peeking behind the bathroom doors of others. Here, she opens up about the products that earn a spot on her own shelf – from chilled eye patches and glow sprays to her beloved Mason Pearson brush

Could you share your daily beauty routine with us, from morning prep to evening wind-down?
"I try to get up around 6:30AM to give myself a peaceful, unhurried morning. My favourite ritual is starting the day with coffee, under-eye patches, and a facial roller. I always keep the patches in the fridge for that extra de-puffing, wake-me-up effect. If I plan to work out, I prefer to do it in the morning before the day really begins. As for makeup, I'm a minimalist. I love using cream products and multi-use sticks – anything that makes the process quicker and more intuitive. I always wear brown mascara or skip it entirely.
Evenings... I wish I could say I’m in bed early, but that’s rarely the case. Once I’m home, I try to shower right away and I absolutely love body products, so that's a moment I cherish. While my evening routine is shorter, I really focus on taking time for myself in the morning."
How do you transition your look from daytime to evening? Are there specific products or techniques you find indispensable?
"My look doesn’t change drastically. I usually add a bit more colour to my cheeks and eyes. Nothing too dramatic. Instead, I focus on the hair. Freshening it up or adding volume makes me feel instantly more polished for evening plans."

What products do you always have in your handbag – whether headed for a night out or for a red-eye flight?
"Despite being in the beauty world, I keep it very simple when it comes to what’s in my handbag. I always carry my Caia loose powder, a good lip gloss, and my Mason Pearson hairbrush. Those three are my everyday must-haves.
For a flight, my routine gets even more elaborate! I always bring hypochlorous acid spray, which is antibacterial and helps prevent breakouts, a small hand sanitizer spray, my heatless curls set from Amelie Soie that’s easy to pack, a collagen mask that melts into the skin and hydrates during the flight, and finally, my eye mask from Slip, it has openings for the eyes so you can blink comfortably and your lashes don’t get squished."
What is your holy grail beauty product that you would recommend to anyone, and why?
"In the summertime, I’m obsessed with a good bronzing spray and anything that gives glow and plumpness to the skin. Overnight curls are also a secret weapon as they're so effortless. And SPF is non-negotiable. Dr. Ceuracle’s Hyal Reyouth Moist Sun is a favourite. It hydrates while protecting, which is the best combo."
If you could give your younger self one piece of beauty advice, what would it be?
"I struggled with problem skin when I was younger, which pushed me into the beauty world early on. I had to research, learn, and invest in quality products much earlier than most. So, to anyone going through something similar: don’t be ashamed. Seek help, do your research, and remember that your skin doesn’t define your worth."
