Flowing lengths of envy-inducing hair has been part of Elsa Hosk's identity for years, but now, the Swedish supermodel switches things up with a dramatically different 'do
When we imagine the impossibly beautiful Swedish supermodel – and Vogue Scandinavia cover star – Elsa Hosk, its with flowing lengths of effortlessly tousled tresses. Styled by Lisa-Marie Powell for the Renaissance-esque cover story, the natural beauty posed with her family in their very own 'Garden of Eden', with nothing but her soft blonde waves falling over her shoulders. At the time, Powell described Hosk's look as "wild, whimsical and free."
For the past decade, Hosk has embraced her natural curl pattern with relaxed saltwater waves – and we've revelled in it, striving to replicate the look on any given occasion.
But now, the model's emblematic 'do has gone through a dramatic transformation. Attending Dior's autumn/winter 2023 show in Paris, the model wore a cream New Look-cut jacket with a matching ankle-grazing skirt and stark black accessories for contrast. Her blunt bob, however, stole the show.
Throughout recent seasons, the blunt bob has held a strong presence as the must-have haircut of the season. However, what sets Hosk's chop apart is the unfussy feel of an otherwise rather demanding hairdo. It is a significant shift from the recently trending, layered butterfly cut (first popularised in the '90s and today sported by Scandinavian tastemakers like Matilda Djerf and Hosk herself). In comparison, the blunt French bob has a certain je ne sais quoi that can be hard to achieve with single-layer cut.
If you're considering going for the chop this spring, be sure to invest in a cone-shaped curling iron and texture spray: the best tools to have in your styling arsenal to recreate Hosk's lived-in look.
