La Bagatelle - SS25

By Josefin Forsberg

Malene Malling's spring/summer '25 collection for La Bagatelle is an ode to the best of fashion past, finding inspiration in nostalgic textiles with rich tactility

Inspired by founder Malene Malling’s home in the small seaside town of Taarbæk just outside of Copenhagen – the house ‘Bagatel’ drawn by architect Gottlieb Bindesbøll – La Bagatelle takes its shape from the treasure trove of knick-knacks and clothes hiding in the cupboard and cabinet throughout the home. It's a refined and curated vintage gems that influence Malling’s own design choices. Choices evident in her spring/summer '25 collection.

Textiles take cantre stage in La Bagatelle’s collection: French silk velvet, handwoven indian cotton, Japanese wool and a range of outstanding vintage fabrics, just to name a few. “Whenever I see an amazing roll of fabric I buy it and often I don’t know what I want to use it for.” For this season, the designer imagined “dream pieces” that she would like to add to the wardrobe in her Aladdin's Cave of a home – most of which are “done in the colours of the summer sky and the ripe fruits of August,” as Malling describes it.

Displayed on the hanger at La Bagatelle’s Copenhagen Fashion Week presentation, the collection came to life in a retro whirlwind of lace trim on a black vest, velvet trousers in jewel tones, nostalgic stripes and a distinctly 1970s lozenge pattern.
