We put Chanel's spring/summer 2027 collection under the loupe, zooming in on the delicious details that bring Matthieu Blazy's avian vision to life
In our coverage of Matthieu Blazy's latest collection for Chanel, we pointed out how the only way to truly understand what makes the French-Belgian designer a virtuoso is to zoom in on the details. This minute attention shows in the fabrication: the innovation of a new smocked tweed, the raw edge of a waistcoat. But it is in the oft-overlooked accessories that Blazy's cohesive, multi-layered approach comes into play.
Time and transformation lay the foundation for this collection. And throughout human history, we've looked to the skies to see how time passes us by. In the collection, cloud-shaped clutch bags capture specific times of day. Migratory birds are another way to measure the year. Here, they take gilded flight from earlobes, settle as buttons and embroidery, and escape from minaudière cages.
The accessories themselves also carry the concept of time passing by. Gabrielle Chanel's own 2.55, borrowed from the house's archives, bookended the show in both the opening and closing look. Between those two appearances, aesthetic eras collapsed into one another across an array of flap bags, old and new, including a fresh classic with a watch-chain lock.
Below, the details that help explain Chanel's spring/summer 2027 collection.
