Still thinking about Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel Couture debut? A closer look at its making

By Clare McInerney

Vogue Scandinavia has an exclusive close-up look inside the Chanel ateliers, where the savoir-faire behind Matthieu Blazy’s Haute Couture SS26 collection comes into focus, stitch by stitch

Still thinking about Matthieu Blazy’s first Haute Couture collection for Chanel – the sheer suits, the birds, the workmanship of it all? So are we. Away from the runway, the collection reveals itself through its making: the handwork, the fittings, the decisions that only come into focus up close.

The Chanel suit, pared back and rendered in sheer silk mousseline, exposes its construction with clarity – softened seams, translucent layers, chains gently weighting hems. The house’s codes appear as personal gestures rather than declarations: love letters, a red lipstick, a bottle of N°5, embroidered into linings, slipped into pockets, or suspended discreetly inside a jacket.

Birds, the collection’s central motif, are suggested through technique rather than imitation. Pleating and embroidery stand in for feathers; tailoring remains sharp and precise. In darker looks, the discipline of the tailoring ateliers is unmistakable. In softer tones, the work of the flou ateliers introduces movement and lightness, much of it realised through the flou ateliers and the artisans of le19M.

Seen this way, the collection reads as Couture in its most direct form: considered, tactile, and designed to be understood at close range.
