Zara Larsson was a vision in a bedazzled, barely-there blue ensemble at the 2025 VMAs. Below, Irish designer Sorcha O'Raghallaigh gives us a breakdown of the custom look

At last night's MTV VMA Awards, Swedish singer Zara Larsson made sure all eyes were on her. The vocalist, never one to shy away from colour or controversy, took the naked dress to a whole new level with a customised look from Irish designer Sorcha O'Raghallaigh.

Baby blue, barely there and bejewelled to the max, this crystallised vision came from the joint minds of O'Raghallaigh and Larsson's stylist Caterina Ospina. "Ospina was very clear on giving directions," says O'Raghallaigh. "[She] chose some techniques and designs from our archive, letting us know that the hibiscus flower was key."

From receiving Ospina's directions, the designer came up with two sketches, but it was the translucent and generously-gemmed gown that the Midnight Sun singer ultimately opted for. Aside from the forray of fringe that flowed with every movement, it was the hand-crafted hibiscus flower that stole the show. "The flowers were made entirely from scratch," commented the designer. "We hand-made tulle petals, stretched and hand-stitched with wire."

Finishing her look, Larsson donned a customised hairpiece and ring that matched the flowers on her dress, as well as blue, hand-jewelled briefs to cohesively tie together the maximalist look. "It was amazing to work with the team," added O'Raghallaigh. "I'm so grateful to have worked with Caterina and Zara on this piece for such an iconic event."
