Louis Vuitton - SS23

By Clare McInerney

Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2023 collection presents an abstract play on proportions, inviting a second look

Nicolas Ghesquiere's latest collection for Louis Vuitton was staged once again in the majestic surroundings of Musée du Louvre’s Cour Carrée in Paris, but this time centred by a special set design – a pulsating "monster-flower" – created by artist Philippe Parreno.

The massive sculpture wasn't the only target of skewed dimensions, with details of the runway looks blown up, emphasised, glorified through a play on large and small. The collection "zooms in on the details, highlights them, gives them their due", read the show notes. Enormous zippers, hyperbolic necklines and supersized labels, clasps and locks – all reinforced the DNA of the Maison, with an underlying sense of ingenuity.
