Watch 'A Bath In My Mother’s Womb' a new dance film that explores the first moments of life

By Vogue Scandinavia

We have all been there but the experience is still very much unknown. In a new film, Swedish-based directors Mona Namér and Sofia Aedo Zahou explores being in the womb - more specifically the stages of birth. And this exploration comes via dance and a hypnotic beat

It’s the safest place on earth; it has everything and anything one needs to grow and thrive. It has everything one needs to be.

For their latest artistic production film directors Mona Namér and Sofia Aedo Zahou take inspiration from a moment we all share, have experienced and somehow will never remember. The time we spent in our mother’s womb. The dance film ‘A Bath In My Mother’s Womb’, which explores styles of contemporary and interpretative dance, takes the viewer through an almost psychedelic visual of one’s time within the crevices and guts of she who created us, for a final interpretation of the process of life, creation and birth.

Using a mix of hip hop, house and modern dance, Namér explains that “the choreography expresses and dives into concepts such as identity, vulnerability, struggle, exhaustion, dreams, the collective and balance.” The characters move through the various sceneries and explore the necessary mental escapism they use to cope.

While we may no longer find ourselves in the womb, the film reminds us that life is constantly about change, rebirth and growth. “The film acts as a metaphor for how essential introspection is for both nature and mankind to have the opportunity to heal and be reborn,” adds Namér
