The Garment - AW26

By Eleanor Kittle

Presented within Eva Koppel’s Langelinie Pavilion, The Garment’s AW26 collection channels mid-century Danish modernism with a dose of '90s Meg Ryan charm

The Garment’s autumn/winter' 26 collection unfolds as a considered dialogue between women and art, staged precisely where Copenhagen’s mid-century architecture meets an autumnal state of mind.

The muse was unequivocally Danish architect Eva Koppel – a connection so intrinsic that the show took place inside the Langelinie Pavilion, one of the landmark structures she designed alongside her husband. As creative director Charlotte Eskildsen explains, “I’m really inspired by the grids, the systems, the lighting and the rules.” Within this architectural framework, The Garment’s AW26 woman comes into focus. She is a curator and a collector, moving intuitively between architectural homes and intimate galleries.

“I always look to old movies for inspiration,” says Eskildsen, noting that this season she was drawn to 18-year-old Meg Ryan in her first film, Rich and Famous. “I was really inspired by the herringbone pencil skirt, the small merino knitwear pieces she’s wearing, her little vintage watch, and the way she’s sitting at her desk.”

On the runway, this vision played out as a study in duality. Models – including influencer Emilia Silberg – moved between expressions of sharp masculinity and softened femininity. Bomber jackets, strict argyle knits, pristine white turtlenecks and precise double-pleated trousers gave way to silk dresses and blousy shirts, alongside skirts and dresses built from tightly packed frilled layers that, from a distance, recalled the texture of fur.

The colour palette was grounded and intentional. Navy and black anchored the collection, while ivory and warm toasted beige offered lift. Deep merlot and rich espresso tones added intimacy and depth, heightened through contrasts in texture: sleek silks and airy lace meeting structured wool, with moments of transparency pushing against solid form.

AW26 also marked The Garment’s debut into footwear – an eight-style capsule that translated the brand’s quiet femininity into shoes. Sculptural wide boots in croc-embossed calfskin sat alongside elegant kitten-heel pumps, butter-soft loafers, and printed calf-hair ballerinas – a study in balance between structure, softness, and ease.
