These makeup applications were the true stars walking down the red carpet

If one were to ask the celebrities who walked the carpet for this year’s Venice Film Festival what are the essentials to their makeup looks the answer would be quite straightforward: eyeshadow and a good lip. Even though every star caught the spotlight in their own way — and chose their beauty looks accordingly — throughout all our favourite looks a red thread of a natural base — with a slightly blushed tint and keeping true to one’s texture — was present. On top of that, the expert pairing of a red lip — with hues that ranged from barely there to Louboutin sole — with a glamorous eyeshadow was just the perfect match for the event. Now, let’s take a closer look at our favourite moments from the red carpet:

Day 1

Barbara Palvin’s sweet look packed an edgy surprise with her own take of a smoked graphic liner. Her own take on business in the front but party from the side.

Keeping true to the red thread that tied all the looks, Sara Sampaio, Armani Beauty ambassador, brought focus to her eyes with a deep kohl liner that was balanced out by a berry glossed lip.

Madisin Rian amped things up with a dark, minimal black shadow that gave depth to her eyes and drew attention to her alluring gaze.

Bianca Balti graced the venue with an ever so slightly, barely there application that had her looking like a holy vision from the Vatican.

Milena Smit walked down the red carpet giving a masterclass on edges in order to achieve the almost wet, slightly sultry and most definitely high fashion look.

Helen Mirren proves that 76 has never looked so good.

In true Italian supermodel fashion, Greta Ferro combined a messy, carefree lob with the one thing necessary for a killer look: a bright, red lip in the classic Armani red.

Day 2

Beatrice Vendramin took classic French romanticism and gave it her own Italian approach for a perfect, sweet aesthetic.

Gaia Gozzi once again proved a rep lip is all one needs for a stunning look.

Zoe Saldana balanced the brightness of her dress with one of the most natural applications of a clean base and glossy lips.

Sheila Vand kept close to the red thread maintaining her look natural and fresh while sealing everything with a statement earring and — of course — a bold, red pout.

Elisa Maino spiced her look up with a killer wing that gave an edge to the classic neutral look everyone has been sporting.

Day 4

Cynthia Erivo delivered extreme hydration with a very natural, black smokey eye, glossy lips look. .

Jessica Chastain opted for a striking red lip to compliment her bedazzled gown. .

The memo for pure romanticism was sent out and Anya Taylor-Joy definitely understood the assignment. .

Day 5

Ajwa Aljoudi rocked her beautifully curly hair and paired it with a lovely, lively, berry hued lip. .

Sara Croce delivered a doll-like fantasy with a high, snatched ponytail and a very clean, polished makeup. .

Days 6 & 7

Aida Yespica looked stunning with a clean matte base, subtle smokey eyes, and natural coloured lips.

Roberta Ruiu mesmerised with a strong black kohl liner that contrasted beautifully with soft, glamorous, waves.

Margherita Buoncristiani opted for an edgier look with a strong graphic liner a sleek pulled back hairdo.

Rocio Morales went for a classic old Hollywood style with a very natural, silky mane and softy smoked eyes.

Leonie Hanne combined the perfect fluffed-out brows with a glossy lip and a golden, sun-kissed, skin .

Catrinel Marlon chose a teased out, highlighted bob with a kohl liner that created the perfect glamorous, care-free aesthetic .

Days 8 & 9

Frida Aasen walked down the carpet with a shimmery smokey blue eye and a clean sleek hair that paired perfectly with the sparkles of her dress.

Our Norwegian Fashion Editor Rawdah Mohamed contrasted her white ensemble with a dewy base deepened by strong smokey eyes and a bold lined lip by Armani Beauty.

Jennifer Lopez graced the carpet in her classic clean skin and flawless base look paired with her signature smokey eyes and a natural coloured gloss.

Jodie Comer premiered her new movie swapping the classic dark smoked eye for a hint of colour paired with a natural blushed skin.

Closing day

Serena Rossi, dubbed Patroness of the festival, walked the final carpet with a lip matching the occasion, a natural blushed skin and a classic wavy styled hair.
