There’s something about autumn – that dip in temperature, the back-to-reality hustle and bustle – that inspires one to really start dressing. The pull is both practical (the season calls for layers and coats, after all) and spiritual; a back-to-school mentality that lingers well beyond graduation.
Luckily the autumn/winter '25 collections offered up plenty of inspiration for a wardrobe refresh. When it came to women’s fashion, the expressions were punchy and playful – fresh takes on heritage classics, fearless approaches to pattern, silhouette and colour (or, if you dare, all three at once).
Below, we break down three standout women’s trends to try for autumn/winter '25, with pieces plucked from luxury Swedish retail destination NK.
Standout Separates

Ganni AW25.

Prada AW25.

Miu Miu AW25.

Louis Vuitton AW25.
It’s the season of vibrant separates, mixed and matched (or mis-matched, as it were) in delightfully unusual ways. “We have seen a lot of monochrome looks for a while now,” says Vogue Scandinavia Editor in Chief Martina Bonnier. “So it’s interesting that we’re looking to separates and unexpected colour combinations.” Ganni found tiger print turtlenecks layered under vivid V-neck sweaters whilst Miu Miu went all-in on unusual colour pairings. Over at Louis Vuitton, the palette was more muted, but equally alluring.
To up the ante, Bonnier suggests introducing contrasting textures – a silk midi skirt paired with a knit polo, for instance, and topped with a faux fur cropped jacket. Complete the moment with a vibrant stocking (Bonnier’s particularly feeling red at the moment) or a knee-high sock – the perfect styling hack to make a brightly hued mini skirt seasonally appropriate. And as an added bonus, as the days grow ever shorter, you’ll offer a welcome bright spot. “When it’s dark outside in Scandinavia, we love a little splash of colour,” says Bonnier.
Check Mate

Khaite AW25.

Duran Lantink AW25.

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood AW25.

Burberry AW25.
Checks of all iterations take centre stage for autumn/winter 2025 – a heritage classic that can convey a swath of aesthetics and attitudes. “You can interpret it as a hunting classic – a refined, English countryside style – or you can make it super punk-ish,” notes Bonnier. Call it the Burberry-to-Vivienne Westwood check continuum – one that begins at The Queen and ends with The Sex Pistols.
Whatever your check aesthetic of choice, the beauty of this enduring print is that it works as standalone piece –a great sweater worn with leather pants, a la Khaite – or from top-to-toe. When going for a total look, dare to power clash with different check sizes and colour combinations.
Long Live the LBD

Dior AW25.

Chanel AW25.

Elisabetta Franchi AW25.

Courrèges AW25.
The little black dress is back – not that it ever truly left. “It’s been a staple since 1926 when Coco Chanel invented it,” says Bonnier, matter-of-factly. “It’s still a staple.” The beauty of the LBD is that it allows silhouette to take centre stage and this season, the forever favourite takes on fresh shapes. Dior found structural bell shapes coming down the runway whilst at Courrèges, a more fluid, asymmetrical approach made a strong statement.
To add that little extra something, Bonnier suggests playing around with jewellery (it’s a big season for statement earrings – a subtle way to incorporate the current 1980s revival). With the LBD as blank canvas, one can go bold with necklaces and bracelets, even stacking links and chains to create a singular expression; a striking and elegant moment that just so happens to be distinctly of our region. As Bonnier puts it: “All people in Scandinavia love black.”
