After taking on the role of Head of Design at By Malene Birger in March, Danish designer Soeren Le Schmidt is exiting the brand
After being appointed Head of Design at Copenhagen-based brand By Malene Birger in March, Danish designer Soeren Le Schmidt is now parting ways with the label.
In a statement, the brand said the collaboration “held great promise”, but that “our organisational framework, structure, and ways of working have not been the right match”.
Le Schmidt, who helms his eponymous label known as a red carpet go-to for royals and celebrities alike, defined by refined tailoring and sculptural minimalism, notes: “My goal in joining By Malene Birger was to inject fresh creative energy and an international perspective into the brand.” He continues: “I’m proud of the initiatives I’ve launched and now look forward to focusing on my own projects and collaborations-spaces where the kind of creative leadership I believe in can truly thrive.”
Following Le Schmidt’s departure, Emilie Martinsen-Kønigsfeldt, owner and creative director of By Malene Birger, will continue to oversee the brand’s creative direction, working alongside the in-house design team on upcoming collections.
“We have deep respect for Soeren and his artistic integrity,” she says. “At times, timing and structure simply don’t align-and when that becomes clear, it is essential to act thoughtfully and with respect. We wish Soeren all the best in his future endeavours.”
