Releasing this Friday, Rave Review’s first homewears collection will have you cancelling plans to stay cosy
Rave Review’s entire premise is transforming textiles originally intended for the home – bedding, tablecloths, drapes – into garments intended to be worn outside the house. But the Swedish brand’s latest capsule brings these home textiles, well, back home. Consisting of pyjamas and slippers, robes and pillows all rendered in Rave Review’s signature print-clashing patchwork, the homewares and home-wears collection arrives this Friday, just in time for the holidays.
“We’ve gotten requests a couple times to do homewares,” says Rave Review co-founder Livia Schück when I meet her at the brand’s Södermalm HQ (co-founder Josephine Bergqvist is out of office, but by now it’s safe to say the duo speak as one). “We said no – we were so focused on the idea of twisting the context – using home textiles for something else.”
But now, having had seven years to establish their design language, Schück and Bergqvist felt it was time to give the people what they want. “We’ve established this aesthetic that we feel very comfortable in,” says Schück, referring to the diagonal cuts and retro plaid and floral fabrics that are unmistakably Rave Review. “We felt it was interesting to apply it to something else than actual fashion and fun to do something else for once.” As an added bonus, it was a great excuse to delve into the storage space of vintage fabrics the duo has been hoarding for a rainy day.
The resulting capsule consists of one-size-fits-all button-down sleep shirts (which, by the way, would look quite at home on the streets with a pair of jeans) and matching relaxed pyjama pants, puffy slipper socks fashioned from duvets and cozy robes made from vintage towels. “We made a robe like this in the collection,” notes Schück. “Then they were made to be worn outside – maybe by a crazy person.” Rounding out the offering are toiletry bags and patchwork throw pillows, ideal to Rave Review-ify any space. Who knew staying in could look so good.
