The Danish fashion brand joined forces with the supermodel on a confidence-boosting line-up that unapologetically celebrates all bodies. Here, we speak to Ganni creative director Ditte Reffstrup for insights into the covetable collection

While much of the fashion industry seems to have recently taken a couple of steps back when it comes to body inclusivity, Ganni continues to take strides forward. Teaming up with supermodel and trailblazer Paloma Elsesser, the Danish brand is introducing a size-inclusive capsule collection that embraces bold fearlessness, along with Elsesser’s unapologetic authenticity and game-changing perspective on the industry.

“We are honoured to partner with Paloma on this capsule. We first met back in 2020 when she closed our Ganni 202020 show, and I was instantly drawn to her extremely warm character. She has such magnetic energy,” says Ditte Reffstrup, the co-founder and creative director of Ganni. “Our collective vision for this collaboration is to empower individuals of all shapes and sizes by offering thoughtful, elevated styles. Paloma is a true voice of change in an industry that is playing catch-up.”

Launching on April 17, the limited-edition capsule, available in extended sizes EU 32-52, boasts a range of four dresses and three trousers crafted from recycled polyester and nylon sourced from pre-and post-consumer waste, aligning with Ganni’s unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Ganni is about confidence and energy – and I really want to make sure as many people as possible feel included in what we do. That’s the whole point.

Fusing Ganni’s contemporary and eclectic aesthetic with Elsesser’s unique and daring style, the pieces offer versatile mix-and-match options, seamlessly transitioning from day to night. “Something that Paloma really wanted to bring in was confidence and sophistication, elevating dresses with directional silhouettes and bold details – adding contrast,” explains Reffstrup. “Paloma had total creative freedom, and I love how the collaboration has taken form.”

The ultimate Ganni girl, Elsesser gave us hints of an upcoming collaboration during Ganni’s spring/summer ’24 showcase when she emerged on the runway sporting one of the capsule’s pieces: a two-piece set inspired by the textured surfaces and tactile nature of trees. Now, the multi-hyphenate is excited to finally unveil the project to the world. “As we continue to embrace diversity and the expression of self through fashion, my collaboration with Ganni represents a powerful step towards a more size-inclusive and empowering fashion future,” Elsesser says. “Our shared vision of inclusivity but most importantly confidence introduces our collection that aims to inspire curiosity and self-acceptance.”

Ganni and Elsesser’s collaboration arrives at a crucial time when it feels like, after some great progression, body inclusivity in fashion has been put on the back burner. “Inclusive sizing is not only commercially viable but also necessary in today’s fashion industry – it’s not about a sense of style or even body shape, it’s a mindset,” asserts Reffstrup. “Ganni is not about one look or uniform identity; it’s about confidence and energy – and I really want to make sure as many people as possible feel included in what we do. That’s the whole point.”

The Ganni x Paloma Elsesser collection will be available on ganni.com as well as select stores across Europe and the US from April 17 2024. What's more, Ganni offers a 25 per cent discount of their main collection styles in the extended size range from EU 32-52.
