Vogue Scandinavia’s editors single out the sharpest takes on 'Tailored for You,' the 2025 Met Gala dress code honouring the exhibition 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style'
This year’s Met Gala adopted “Tailored for You” as its dress code, echoing the Costume Institute’s exhibition 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', a celebration of Black dandyism and the politics of precision suiting. From razor-sharp pleats, to hand-rolled lapels and flashes of jewel-bright lining – below, Vogue Scandinavia editors list the looks that cut through the red carpet crowd

“This look offers a striking spin on the classic men’s suit, recast as an off-the-shoulder gown with a sweeping skirt. It spotlights Chanel’s exceptional craftsmanship, uniting the night’s theme with the house’s unmistakable savoir-faire.”

“Vittoria Ceretti’s (positively stunning) custom Moncler look – puffer hood and all – is peak Scandinavia-coded. Inspo for my next Nordic gala. No notes.”

“Two Valentino looks by Alessandro Michele stopped me in my tracks this year, as worn by Colman Domingo and Lana Del Rey. But I have to give the crown to Lana: her velvet and satin gown was a poised interpretation of the 2025 theme – and proof that tailoring for women doesn’t just mean straight-up suiting. The chocolate brown hooped skirt, the netted lace back, the giant ostrich feathers – yes, yes, yes.”

“Zoë Saldaña stole the show with her Thom Browne tailoring. The closer I leaned in, the cleverer it got with a rib-knit corset that curved into sculpted hips, a marching line of pearly-white buttons running from collar to hem and those crisp shirt sleeves anchoring the whole thing in the night’s sartorial brief. Then there was the back: a single, oversized bow for just the right amount of red carpet drama. Top it off with her micro-bob and blunt fringe (easily the sharpest haircut on the carpet) and the look became my undisputed favourite. It was monochrome, meticulous and proof that the devil truly lives in the details.”

““This year’s Met Gala co-chair Colman Domingo turned heads in a striking suit cut from bold black-and-white colour-blocking and finished with razor-sharp tailoring. An oversized brooch dialled up the drama to a flawless 10 out of 10.”

“I knew this year’s theme would deliver breathtaking tailoring, but I wasn’t prepared for just how far it would go – and I love being pleasantly surprised! Zoë Saldaña, Coco Jones, and Tessa Thompson all looked gorgeous, but Karlie Kloss ultimately claimed my best-dressed vote. The standing collar, the deep V neckline, the sweeping train… perfection.”

“Out of all the guests who showed up in crisp white-hued looks for this year’s Met Gala (and there were many), my favourite was Dutch supermodel Imaan Hammam in Magda Butrym. The masterfully tailored proportions – sharp shoulders, a cinched waist and billowing trousers – perfectly play into the aesthetics of Black Dandyism, topped off with a contrasting raven shirt and an oh-so-dapper polka dot tie. The pièce de résistance? A walking cane, the dandy’s ultimate accessory. Chef’s kiss.”
