Newly introduced at the renowned N’AGE clinic in Copenhagen, Profhilo Body restores moisture deep within the skin to target the signs of ageing brought on during menopause. We visit the clinic to witness the treatment firsthand and discover how it can reverse a woman’s age in more ways than one

So often when we speak of treatments to preserve – or even reclaim – youthfulness, the focus is on the face. Yet, the skin on the rest of our bodies – our hands, our arms, our décolletage, our stomach – also experiences the effects of ageing. This is especially true of women approaching menopause. As oestrogen sharply decreases, skin loses moisture and elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles and sagging – often described as a crepey texture – appears slowly at first and then all at once.

“Women often say, ‘It happens overnight’,” says Ida Bille Brahe, founder of N’AGE clinic in Copenhagen. Having opened over two decades ago as the first clinic of its kind in Copenhagen, N’AGE works with each of its patients – including ambassador Helena Christensen – to develop a personal plan to reverse the visible signs of ageing. The newest offering among the covetable smorgasbord of treatments is one that specifically targets those sometimes-overlooked areas south of the face: Profhilo Body.

A non-invasive treatment that uses hyaluronic acid to improve skin elasticity and refine texture, Profhilo Body restores moisture beneath the surface of the skin to visibly reduce those aforementioned signs of ageing. The treatment is biostimulating, meaning it activates the regenerative processes that slow down as we age (worth noting – hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our bodies), promoting more resilient skin in the long term. While N’AGE has offered Profhilo Face since 2018 – a treatment designed to target more delicate areas – the new Pofhilo Body, as its name suggests, is specifically designed to target areas of the body.

On an unassuming Tuesday morning I visited the well-appointed N’AGE clinic (conveniently located just above Copenhagen’s recently re-opened Chanel boutique) to observe as a client received Profhilo Body in the area under her arms (from Bille Brahe herself, no less). “Ageing is ageing,” said the woman, cheerfully, pointing out how her skin has begun to sag and change in texture beneath her bicep. The treatment – a series of quick injections on each arm – lasted no longer than 20 minutes (a lunchtime undertaking) and, according to the woman, hurt no more than a standard vaccine. She felt little-to-no pain afterwards – perhaps bit of tenderness. The only sign of the experience was a bit of redness and a bump at the injection point, which disappears in the subsequent day or two as the hyaluronic acid disperses throughout the treated area, spreading through the layers of cells for maximum effectiveness. Think of it as a super boost of the very hyaluronic acid many of us apply to the top layer of our skin as part of a considered nighttime routine.

Bille Brahe suggests two treatments of Profhilo Body one month apart for best results. And while women who have already noticed a change in their skin that they wish to reverse will see the most tangible change, it can also be used preventatively, to maintain moisture and elasticity. For some women, the treatment has restored a confidence instantly reflected in their wardrobes. “I hear women say, ‘Now I can wear spaghetti straps’,” says Bille Brahe. And just in time for the summer season. For those looking for more elastic and hydrated skin whilst reducing fat deposits, Bille Brahe suggests combing the treatment with CoolSculpting.

It’s this boost in confidence that’s become N’AGE’s signature; a preservation of youthfulness both aesthetically and from within. “We talk about different ages,” says Bille Brahe. “You have the age that’s on your passport, the biological age, the visible age and the psychological age – how old are you feeling.” While treatments such as Profhilo Body specifically target the biological and visible age, the psychological age – that inner feeling – can in turn be wound back as well. “If you look younger, you have a younger mental approach and more quality of life,” says Bille Brahe. “One of our purposes is to make people happy, and they are happy to see that they look younger. They can relate more to themselves.”
