Swedish artist and fashion illustrator Mats Gustafson has been capturing Dior’s most iconic looks for some 15 years. The artist gives us a private tour of his solo booth for gallery CFHILL at Market Art Fair in Stockholm
“Some people go there to be seen, go there to see,” says Mats Gustafson. He’s speaking, of course, of Paris Fashion Week. Having working professionally as a fashion illustrator since the late 1970s, Gustafson has seen the evolution of street style, the increasing ubiquity of iPhones, the introduction of livestreams. Yet his craft has remained pleasingly unchanged. Analogue. Watercolour on paper, lyrical yet deeply specific. While many have commissioned his work (this magazine included), over the years his deepest relationship has been with the house of Dior. He’s sat at countless shows, captured countless looks, documented the tenures of several creative directors over the course of some 15 years.
